Chicken of the woods?

It's been a long time since I've been hunting, so forgive me if this is way off.
Habitat: Growing on an old tree (oak?) in Florida scrub wood
Gills: pores
Stem: No stem. Growing directly out from the tree. Not hollow but lighter flesh on the inside. Flesh was extremely soft for a polypore and almost fluffy. Almost similar to very good quality tissue paper? Texture of outside mushroom is quite smooth.
Spore print color: In progress.
Bruising: None Noted
Other information: Mushroomy smell. Taste was somewhere between typical mushroom and very fresh mozzarella.

How sure are you? Should I wait for a trusted identifier? I assume there's no real look-alikes, but I just want to be extra sure.
I truly haven't been hunting in a long time, so I don't trust my judgement at all.

You're good to go. I've never eaten chicken of the woods before. How is the taste?

I'm pretty sure, but as custom dictates on this forum, you should wait for a trusted identifier.

I'm not a TI, but those are definitely chickens. I have eaten many and there are no true lookalikes that are poisonous. The closest lookalike might be the jack-o-lantern, but they grow om the ground, not out of logs. I slice mine into about one inch strips and sauté medium to low heat with butter and garlic. Salt and pepper to taste and enjoy.

My first time eating. Absolutely delightful! Very sweet in a way similar to chanterelles. Put them in some butternut squash soup and it made it much better.
