How do you deal with theives?

If you have a thief in the family, and shit keeps turning up missing, what do you do?
This bitch has the nerve to ask me where her stuff is cause she lost it and thinks it's stolen too. She always finds her shit, but my shit's always missing.

I've lost a lot of freinds over thievery.
Shitty thing about a thief, unless they are truly desperate, is they plan their moves out so they can pass blame off on someone else.
I've always forgiven though. Moneys not worth your soul.....and if you act out over it in a negative way you've lost a piece of it.

Yeah, I imagine that's their plan. My having a few drinks is going to probably be their key argument as to why my stuff is missing. They used to blame it on someone else, but that person is gone and things are still disappearing.

Once someone steals from me I can no longer trust them in my house, so I don't. Your friendship isn't worth me having to watch you like a hawk just to make sure nothing comes up missing. Even if you confront them and they give the shit back, you never know when they're going to do it again. Stealing is one thing I will never forgive and forget about, once you've done it, our friendship is burned permanently.
My brother is a notorious thief. Actually he's fresh out of prison on parole in a halfway house for the last time he stole from someone. I don't know if he'd ever steal from me but I can't really trust he won't. It's a shitty situation to be in. He hasn't ever stolen from me, though he's had plenty of opportunity to. Still I can't just let him roam my house freely.
--------------------
With my face against the floor I can’t see who knocked me out of the way. I don’t want to get back up but I have to so it might as well be today. Nothing appeals to me no one feels like me, I’m too busy being calm to disappear. I’m in no shape to be alone contrary to the shit that you might hear. You can't wake up, this is not a dream. You're part of a machine, you are not a human being With your face all made up, living on a screen. Low on self esteem, so you run on gasoline

What is stealing though unless you really lay it down like "DO NOT TOUCH THIS IT MEANS A LOT TO ME!!!!!"
Some people are fucking dumb.
I've had stuff get stolen by accident, then it gets awkward, then it's weird.
Like if I am at a festival and someone tries to rob me, I will follow them around for hours and scream at them.
If it's at my house I will give you another chance but not before you own up to it and pay me back.
I've been jack for thousands before. Just kinda like fuck it. It's just paper.

If I have to define what stealing is, then you're just too stupid to be my friend in the first place
I'm not talking about my lighter magically walking off or someone helping themselves to my weed. They know what they're doing and that they shouldn't be taking it.

Whoever it is is obviously just trying to play victim to seem more genuine herself. Honestly, I have a hard time being forgiving if people fuck with me, so I'd probably play her game back and steal her shit too. I'd take something really important and hold it til she admitted she was stealing my stuff. What is she stealing?

I've lived in communal houses where it's kinda like, unless you write your name on it, nail it to something, and have a brief description as to why you need whatever it is, you can count on it being gone within the day.
I've also lived in very respectful houses where no one fucks with anyones shit.
Some people have a different code of morals when it comes to stealing.
If you hunt wild mushrooms, and someone finds your spot and takes all of them, is that stealing? Say you showed them the spot in the first place.

Sucks I usually lose the friend right when something is in their hands worth it to them to ditch.
Like....some of the stuff people have stolen from me....I probably woulda just gave it to them lol. It's the principal of the thing.
One time I let someone borrow a pretty large amount of money. When I was locked up he stole one of my pistols, sold it, and used it to pay me 50 bucks out of 3k back. He admitted to doing it months after I got out. I told him to hide it somewhere.
Him and I had been friends since high school, but dude was always stealing shit. Shop lifting, stealing from anyone he wasn't "friends" with.
I miss the dude sadly. He was a pretty awesome person to be around aside from the klepto shit, which would almost result in fisticuffs that would just get brushed under the rug instead.

No because to me that wouldn't fit into the "expectation of privacy" fancy lawyer term for personal property. I don't live in a communal house, I live in my house. Everything in this house belongs to one of three people (Me, my wife or my son and I think that makes it technically 2 since he's not of age yet). Unless one of them has given you consent to leave with an item from this house, you're stealing. If one of the three gives permission to take one of the other three's item(s) then there is a miscommunication or something and I expect it back.

I'd cut them off if they're a relative, buy a better lock for your door in the meanwhile.
For non relatives I try to end things without violence, but there's a limit For strangers its either a police report or violence (get your drugs out of the house asap)

If your thief steals drugs as well as money capsule up a bag full of sodium hydroxide in gel caps, and leave it on a coffee table labeled "MDMA 200mg."
If the person you suspect to be a thief calls an ambulance, you'll know it's been them this whole time.

Or just confront them about it.

I was thinking about just putting her xbox and television in the garbage can seeing as it's trash pick-up day.

She does have IBS, I could probably get away with that.
Though in reality I'll probably have to revoke her house key and tell her to swap her mailing address to her boyfriend's house.Quote:

My roomates used to steal my weed before I started locking it up. I knew it had been going on for a whille, but when I finally caught them red handed, I shamed them by laughing at their fiending faces and telling them to give it all back. I let them keep a small amount and told them I'll be locking up all my stuff from now on. Never had anything stolen again.

This is what I used when I was a kid....someone kept stealing my shit out of my bag on the back of my 10 speed while I was swimming ...so, I put one of these.... in the bag with a light piece of pillow case over it and a dollar bill over the pan on the trap.
lol...it worked but dude through my bike in the creek....found the bloody pillowcase not far from where bike was parked and a couple days later found the kid that was doing it because he had 2 broken fingers....Maybe put a little weed over the pan or a couple oxy's...that'd get em.
