Monotub discussion

So this is my first try at growing shrooms. So far it's gone quite good. I used wbs for colonization and for a sub a mixture of Verm coir and cow manure that I have access to that has been run through a separator. The manure is mainly hay straw and feed that the cows have not digested. So far I'm thinking this sub will work great for me as I have an unlimited access to this manure. I just put my mono tub into fruiting conditions so I'll post progress as I go. In the mean while I wanted to start a discussion about what is the best way to save spores and how to do it. I know there's spore prints but is that the best way? Plus whats best way to dry once i harvest. Will a large box fan and some wire mesh or screen dry them enough for storage. Also feel free to post your mono tub pictures and progress!

There is a giant pool of water in the middle of your substrate...
Did you follow a tek?
Are you laying foil over the substrate?
There are a few things wrong with this...

I agree. You may have better luck incubating the substrate mass in covered aluminum trays and not the fruiting chamber. This way, you do not worry about cleaning the bottom of the bacteria when it definitely contaminates. Standing water at any time is not good!

1st You're going to want to drain that standing water from your tub somehow... Maybe sop it up with a damp sponge
2ND Not sure what the tin foil is for.. I'm going to assume that you used it to cover the sub while it colonized? In the future taping the holes in your tub will suffice.
3rd I hope to god that you have a clear lid for that tub and a light source. I would suggest a clear tote for your next grow
Other than that everything is looking on track. Good luck!! Hope you update with some pins soon!

There are teks written on here on how to make one, you'll find them if you search.
What I do is cut the foil into rectangles, wipe them down with alcohol and put them in a glove box. Then I cut the caps and place them on the tin foil after it has dried and stick a toothpick in the top of each cap. The next day life them off the tinfoil with the toothpick. Let them dry a hour or two after you removed the cap.
Now fold the tinfoil up and over the print and use the sides to fold over to encase it.
Secondly, the best way is to get a dehydrater. You'll find them at Walmart and you can always buy extra trays.
Move that tub into fruiting, make sure you get that pool of water in the middle with a paper towel. It's way to wet.

A damp sponge is the absolute nastiest bacteria and mold ridden thing in anyone's house. Just sayin.

I think it's salvageable... not sure to what degree though...
It depends on what you define a success as. Hehe

I try not to use the first one too often...

The foil is for colonization of the mono tub. The moisture in the picture was condensation from the foil. I followed a tek to the T other than sub just because I have access to the cow manure. From what I have read it said to colonize for 10 days then fruit so that's what I did.I also did not mist walls and I'm glad I didn't as I already have enough condensation.

Next time just tape the holes of your monotub and close your lid. Do you have a light source for your shrooms?

I do have a light on them 12 on 12 off. I did tape my holes the foil is supposed to help colonize faster. Within 5 days my top was almost completely colonized.

Just an update. I wiped my walls down and the top of the tote to get rid of some of the moisture. I also took some stuffing out of the holes in my sides. It's has helped and I have lots of pins coming in.
