Possible to add more sub to a tray for uneven growth?

I got a tray that i ran out of pasteurized h pooh on when spawning too... this was 3 days ago and the mycelium is really taking off. is it possible to pasteurize a little more and put it in the uneven areas or should i just wait till time to case them and use casing to make it even?
here are 2 pics the first one is the uneven growth tray that I ran short on sub and the second is what i thought was perfect even substrate.

thanks everyone for helping!

Only problem I can forsee would be, without having more spawn, a lot longer wait till you have fully colonized sub. I would just leave them for now and keep in mind for next time that you want to even the substrate a lot better than that when spawning. What are you casing with? You could try casing right now and hope the myc evens itself out a bit under the surface.

I was thinking sense this is my first take at growing (non pf style) I was going to use pasteurized 1 part peat moss to 1 part vermiculite. Still debating getting a bag of gypsum. However, I didn't add it to the Coco coir/vermiculite/h pooh substrate. Appears to be doing just fine without it.

Some people dont bother with gypsum. Mycelium will still colonize without it but gypsum helps lower ph value in the substrate for better results.
You can make your life a whole lot easier next time by spawning to straight CVG and then casing with some leftover mix after spawn. Saves you the hassle of pasturizing Hpoo and then again for casing media. Also saves space in the garage/shed/kitchen.
Hpoo definitely has its place in mushroom cultivation but arguably not much benifit for cube cultivation

Interesting... So follow something like this? CVG Recipe or can you recommend a better method. I was definitely doing monotubs next. I mainly did a few trays to make sure that I am sterilizing and pasteurizing everything properly before heading into filling 64 quart containers.
I mainly was using horse poop cause I have horses. But if there is no needed nutritional value in it. I will definitely ditch it.
Thanks again man.. I really appreciate the straight forward answers!

Hey if you got hpoo and want to use it then by all means do your thing. Thats a good CVG recipe yup!
And true I was mistaken about the gypsum. Just looked it up. You're right it doesn't change ph value, rather helps with water retention in soil and keeping it loose. Thanks for pointing that out must have picked up some bad info along the way.

Gypsum stabilizes pH. I rarely use it in spawn anymore and never use it in bulk. I do use it in peat based casing layers when I use them.

It's not that it lowers or raises pH, it just buffers it. There're pH swings in the substrate during colonization. The idea is that Gypsum helps stabilize the pH so it doesn't let things like mold take hold. To change pH, that's where things like Lime come into play. But IIRC, Lime isn't really necessary in the case of cubes, because they fruit quicker than the change in pH would make it necessary. They do use it to cold sterilize straw logs though. I throw lime in the bucket water for a CVG anyways. Necessary or not, I got it so I use it.

Gypsum does indeed buffer soils, but at the quantities, and timeframes we're dealing with, buffering is a non-issue. Gypsum is used to condition the spawn or sub to keep it from sticking together and compressing and to improve water holding capacity and to supply Ca. According to Stamets it's really only necessary for a. brunnescens.

Right on guys! That is kind of what I understood about adding Gypsum is that its mainly used to keep things from clumping up.
I hate to post another question on another topic... we will see if anyone will reply to this sense its a few days old...
Q. I am doing trays (I didnt wanna go all out and do monotubs and get failure my first time trying bulk... so far its been very easy)
Anyways... its on day 5 of colonizing the tray sense I spawned it
if it matters I used Cracked Corn and Verm (its all i had on hand) and the quart jars where fully colonized in 8 days... then i spawned to hpooh coir and verm and did a 1/4 ratio.
Okay so 1 of the trays is looking very dry... is it okay to go head and throw it fruiting conditions? or what should i do to a tray that is loosing moisture?

How are your trays losing moisture? Are they not covered? Yes you can introduce to fruiting and mist the sub as needed

Its just one out of 4.. I have covered in foil with 3 tiny holes poked in the top.
But I introduced to fruiting conditions and now there are water drops all over the top of it.
Okay so... I kind of have a few questions about fruiting. Now I got RR's Lets grow mushrooms series and I know its all a little out of date but after reading and reading I decided to follow that to a T just to be on the safe side except I didn't have gypsum on hand and I used cracked corn instead of rye berrys... anyways he does not explain terrariums and fruiting very well. So I used a sgfc when I did the PF style cakes and I didn't like it at all! I have a fly issue right now cause its getting cold and wet outside. I had very good luck with just putting an inch of damp perlite in a sealed storage container years back with pf cakes. Anyways that what I am doing for these trays at the moment.
questions are 1) are water beads a bad thing? they are tiny but there is a lot 2) how often should I fan (i rigged a little computer fan to a dc cord and i just prop open the lid and set it there for a few minutes) and then about misting I don't see misting being a requirement until I dont see water drops on the mycelium?
Again thanks so much I would like give you props on helping me but it says I don't have enough posts yet I guess I need 50...

Water drops are good. You want them there until your pinset comes in. If your sub surface drys out before your pinset comes in than give it a light misting.
If you set your chamber up properly you should never have to fan. Get that computer fan away from your grow and look up the principals of a mono tub.
Your mushrooms want constant passive FAE more than they care about humidity. Having an airtight fruiting chamber is not going to help you. A mono tub is the best option for your trays. Measure the length and width of your trays and go find clear plastic totes at Walmart that have roughly the same footprint so you can set your trays inside. While you're at it pick up some micropore tape or polyfil (pillow stuffing) to cover the holes in your tub. Then make a monotub.
Technically you're supposed to put the bottom holes at substrate level (level of your tray) but if you're making a monotub now you will most likely be growing straight from the monotub in the future. Keep in mind your future substrate height for your next grow when drilling holes.

Okay... I got micropore tape, I got polyfill and I have the right size drill bit and I have 5 storage containers I was going to make into monotubs when the next batch of jars where ready.
Okay your saying I can just go ahead and make the monotubs and just place the trays in there and just give it some misting from time to time?
So also when I do my monotubs (without trays) I was just going to paint the bottom 3 or 4 inches or should I really do the plastic lining?
oh! and thanks for pointing out the CVG I went ahead and got a few Coco bricks another bag of verm and I got a bag of gypsum (sta-green or whatever lowes had)

Yeah make the monos now your trays are begging you
You definitely want a liner. Painting the bottom 3 inches won't do a thing. Light isn't really much of a pinning trigger. FAE is your biggest pinning trigger along with proper microclimate.
A liner sticks to your substrate while it shrinks. (And boy does it ever shrink) So with a liner stuck to the side of your sub you're not allowing FAE and therefore shouldn't see pins.
You'll most likely have side pinning going on in your trays. If not the first flush, than the second.

Okay I made the monotubs... but I am confused about this

Are you saying I want a plastic lining and then saying not to use it? I am sorry if I am not reading that correctly...
and also instead of going to walmart to get some more storage containers the ones I have are the 66ct or 64... i removed the stickers and don't remember but it was the size in spitballs cvg tek... anyways... the trays don't match the footprint so should I go ahead and throw an inch of soaked perlite at the bottom or am I just looking to deep in to all this?
Im so sorry if I am being retarded about this.

Side pins suck to harvest. So it's better to not get them. However they usually are not a huge problem if you can dial the surface in perfect. However liners also help with clean up and harvest. It's hard to dial a tub in perfect when you just start. So use a liner.

Post a pic of your trays in your monotub. You may be over thinking it a tad. You just want a good amount of substrate in there to keep the humidity up. As long as yiyr trays take up a majority of the square footage in yoyr tub yoy should be fine. Some people fruit cakes in a monotub.
I apologize tho I wasn't exactly clear about the liner. It prevents the sides and bottom of your sub from getting FAE thus preventing side pins.

I will get ya a pic in the morning! I built them but I still have the "tray" in the original setup cause I was not sure what I really should do lol... sorry I will set it all up in the morning. I only started 1 tray in fruit cause it was looking dry!
I am kind of going all around the board and making notes... 2 of the trays I am casing... 2 of them I am fruiting without casing...
