How people dress

Does anyone find it interesting to observe how people dress? I'm not really talking about what I think most would call "fashion". I dont keep up with trends or follow certain brands or designers. I just think its very interesting to observe how certain people dress and why they dress that way from a culture/psychological perspective I guess.
I have a wide variety of friends, and it always intrigues me how some of them totally put some thought into how they look (whether they admit it or not), while others literally dont care at all. I'm not even talking about dressing "fancy" or "nice", I'm just talking about people who clearly are going for a certain look, whether they're trying to look hippy-ish or hipster-ish or preppy. I've never really asked of them exactly why they wear the things they do, feel like its not my buisness, but I'm assuming everyone has a reason. And then theres the people who seem to dress very common? They're usually wearing gym shorts or cargo shorts, or just a pair of loose fit jeans, with your standard nike running shoes, plain tshirt, maybe a north face jacket or a plain atheletic sweatshirt.
I'm not criticizing any one in particularly, just something thats been on my mind. I always find the younger generation of hipsters fascinating, they basically dress like most of the europeans I know except here in the states, your instantly labeled a hipster if your pants are unusually tailored and you dress particularly nice.
I dont know, I'm stoned, thoughts?

I think dressing a particular way is a very powerful way of signalling to other people what kind of person you are, your interests and what subculture you are apart of or want to be, it's a powerful way of making friends for sure. Sucks for me cause i dress very nondescript and boring. Clothing is so ephemeral, I don't really give a shit although I suppose it's spot on because I don't think i fit into any "group"

Yeah, I have very little sense of style. Not just clothing, hair and stuff as well. Wish I was more elaborate with clothing choices, but I'm just not.
Typically wear pretty plain clothing. Never really taught myself any other way. Prefer solid colors and occasionally geometric patterns for the most part.

I don't like to stand out so I wear pretty plain stuff. Shoes are the only 'fancy' clothing item I buy. I'm somewhat of a sneaker head so I guess that counts as fashion.

My rule for shirts is would it be cool to look at while your spun out or shrooming?
Other than that it's simple denim or plain shirts for comfort depending on dress code/ expected attire for the situation, even then I tend to wear beat up 'I get high' ish looking clothes

It really is. It's insane how having, for example, long hair alone automatically sets you apart and opens certain people up to you while it turns other people away from you. I have long hair and have experienced this all my life. I dont think theres anything necessarily wrong with dressing nondescript, in fact I think in many ways its very advantageous, you can fly under the radar without people instantly judging you in certain situations. Allows you to be much more of chameleon
But yea I always found it fascinating. I remember back in middle school, when I was only 14 or 15, it was already so obvious how some of the "skater" kids dressed compared to the guys who played football, and I dont think anyone was even old enough to understand the implications of their appearance at that point

A friend of mine who is into fashion said that people around here dress like they just rolled out of bed or something to that effect. I oftentimes leave the house in pajama pants so I would say that is a pretty apt judgement.

I agree with this.
I usually dress like I am going to sweat through most of my clothes, because when I am out I am always on the go. Not trying to sound like a prude, but I do think buying the best outdoor clothing, to be a must. I have worn the cheaper running apparel compared to the higher end stuff, and with the higher end stuff you can really feel where that extra money went. Also with camping gear, gotta have good camping gear, but even stores like REI have great priced store brand camping gear, which is amazing.
If I had to dress up, I clean up very well, but that is very rare. When I am chillin, I dress like a fuckin bum, deal with it people.
Shoes are also very important too, especially if you're on your feet for a while, sometimes it helps to buy a show which works best, instead of what looks best.
Anyway, I agree with you nico, that people figure they see some guy with a grateful dead shirt on, and since they like the dead too, figure he would be a possible future crony.
I like to wear plain stuff, with a minimal amount of logos/designs, all because I don't want people to look at me and think they have me figured out because of some label on my clothing, fuck that, get to know me first.

I've always seen dress as another form of art, like tattoos it is art that you can wear. One of my favorite exhibits at the museum was when they displayed an exhibit showcasing how fashion has changed over the past thousand years or so.
For me personally though, dressing up for a woman takes a lot of effort. So for every day wear I'm pretty casual, just pants or shorts and a T-shirt. But when I'm going out somewhere or trying to look nice, I'll wear a dress or a trendy outfit.
Waiting for this hipster phase to fucking die because I hate skinny jeans, and that way I can start wearing loose low cut halter tops like this again:

I love dressing one of my favorite parts about the morning is applying makeup figuring out what to wear based on activities, weather, and time of day picking my earrings.
I don't spend the 2+ hours some girls take to get ready in the morning however it is an enjoyable little ritual for me I consider myself mid-femme in general
My low-femme days I'm in leggings, shorts camisol and cardigan.
Berlin is cool because you can kind of get away with any non bright clothing style. You can rock the 80s style to the 2000s style here.

I like to wear 80s vanilla ice fresh prince style clothes when I'm out on the town. but that style is expensive to adopt full time, so mostly I just wear dad clothes from walmart. but I have a mullet so I always look somewhat cool.

When you dress clean cut, and look clean cut, people tend to assume you're a clean cut person. And that's the impression I try to give off. I mostly always wear a collared shirt, khakis, some boat shoes and I gel my hair. The clean cut look is one that will never go out of style.

I'm pretty into style. I like to keep my clothing choices as somewhat of a reflection of the kinda person I am. I don't fuck with high fashion or anything like that but I like maintaining a specific image. Just one of many ways to creatively express yourself, but if you don't care about it at all, that's fine, too. There's many other outlets. I just try and take advantage of all of them because the more i engage in the more well rounded my creative process becomes.

I dress like shit. Honestly i could care less..i want to be comfy. Sweatpants are my shit along with my zip up jacket in the cold. In the summer i wear a T shirt and basketball shorts
I never observed the way people dress. I could look at someone clothes and forget what i saw 5 minutes later.

I dress like I'm lazy and don't give a fuck. And both are generally true. I like dressing up for special specific reasons but otherwise it's almost always t-shirt and jeans. At work it's polo and slacks, for the most part. I'll wear a blouse on occasion or put on a suit (which I look fly as fuck in) if I'm doing important presentations. Otherwise I tend to go with the bare minimum. I never did get fashion.
