Damaged Lophophora!

Hey guys, one of my L. Willamsii buttons has some damage on one side and I was just curious what you all thought it was, and what I should do about it ensure the little guy lives through it.
I just received it and it looks kind of deflated on one side, with a sort of tannish/grey discoloration that appears to also be happening in a small spot on one other side. What's going on here? The button itself is pretty soft, but not softer than a regular dehydrated button. It's not my softest willamsii.
The taproot seems to be fine and is pretty firm to the touch as well. The damaged part of the button is sort of rough to the touch, kind of like a dry scab. It doesn't feel particularly wet or squishy. It hasn't been watered since I got it, and it's potted in a mixture of perlite, lava rock, and gravel.
What do you think this could be? I also posted about this in the Lophophora growers thread, but the topic jumps around so rapidly in there I was worried I wouldn't get ,any opinions.
Thanks guys!

If it makes you feel any better i have one that got the same and over came it. As long as its not squishy, youre ok.

Like people, the tissue of plants can get damaged and recover. I once had a Loph get badly mauled by my neighbour´s cat - it recovered, but was badly scarred. As I remember it emigrated to the US eventually.
As long as the damage does not get rotten, when it gets soft and squishy also, it will recover no problem.

Thanks! This is reassuring to hear, I didn't want the poor little guy to die. How will I know if it's rotten?

It does. Thanks man, it's good to hear a hopeful diagnosis from some experts.
