Once again, DethHed, my shroom hunting mentor has pointed me in the right direction.
I woke up at 6:30 this morning and drove 120 miles to the east to search the mountains north of Cle Elum for morels. My goal was to hunt in elevation of 2000-3000 feet. I ended up visiting 5 state parks without a single fruit. I was tired, frustruated and pissed that I had made this 100 mile trip 3 times and only found a single morel.
Last weekend, DethHed had mentioned in one of his posts that he had luck at a state park in Easton. So just for the hell of it, I stopped in this tiny mountain town on my way back to Seattle to see if I could score some "leftovers". When I got to the state park, I did a little exploring and found nothing. I was about to give up, but then I saw a sign, there was a 14 mile trail connected to the park! This was my big break, I thought to myself, "There is no way DethHed could have searched all 14 miles." So I went about a half mile down the trail and wasn't seeing any morels. I started getting frustruated again, I hopped off the trail and started bushwacking my way back to the car, exhausted and ready to call it a day, when this happened...

This photo would make the penis envy strain envious. This morel was about 8 inches long, it was rotted so I didn't pick it. But in retrospect, I wish I had, the spores from this baby would be great for home growing...

I can't thank DethHed enough, last fall he showed me Cyans, now he showed me Morels. Thanks a kazillion pal.

Hehe, nice find man. Surprised I didn't see you today, I was out hunting around there too. Got a few, but nothing major, i did a lot better last friday. i think the cold slowed em down a bit, you can see some of em got frosted in the pics. If it warms up next week like they're saying though, fruits should be plentiful again, it's wet as hell up there. Peace DH

Man, I wish I had known you were going hunting yesterday, we could have car pooled. That was some freaky weather up there. Earlier in the day, I was up around Blewitt Pass, the snow was coming down like a blizzard! Even in Easton, it was so chilly that I wished I wasn't wearing shorts.
Anyhow, check your PM's.

oy Just thought I'd mention that the penis looking thing in that one pic is a Verpa bohemica . They're not true morels but they're edible and decent (when fresh). They usually come up before the true morels. I don't see em too often up there, they mostly stick around the riverbanks and flooded areas. The rest are all M. elata/angusticeps/whatever people call them now. DH

Hey this is random and probably a bit delayed but I just signed up and live in Easton. Has anyone found liberty caps up here per are they strictly on the coast. You'd think there would be some up here but wanted some experienced shroom hunters opinions
