Mushrooms found in Nicaragua - Need help with ID
    #23801405 - 11/04/16 06:09 PM (7 years, 2 months ago)

Hey!

I'm living in Nicaragua at the moment and purchased some mushrooms from a local today. He insists they are magic ones but of course I want to be sure before putting them in my mouth so I'm reaching out to you guys for some help identifying them! Thanks in advance for any help!

Oh, and please excuse me for being a terrible photographer!

Here are the mushrooms:

1.

2.

Habitat:
The local picked them in his dad's pasture, and they were growing out of cow dung inside the field. It's also rainy season in Nicaragua, so it's incredibly humid at the moment and it's raining a lot.

Gills:

Mushroom 1:

White gills attached to stem.

Mushroom 2:

Dark blueish color not attached.

Stem:

Mushroom 1:
Varying white/brownish color, 3/4 mm diameter, sort of soft/hollow stem.

Mushroom 2:
Dark blueish/blackish color, although looks like it used to be white (white spots here an there on the stem). Very tiny, 1-2mm diameter and pretty hard/dried out texture.

Cap:

Mushroom 1:
3-4 cm diameter, white with yellow/brown spots scattered over the cap. Convex.

Mushroom 2:

Baby ones around 1cm diameter, white with a lot of dark blue coloring over the cap.

Bruising:
Mushroom 1:
None.

Mushroom 2:
Dark blueish color spreading throughout the mushroom.

Thanks in advance!

/Elyzzia

I can tell you that the second one is Panaeolus cyanescens.

I don't think the first one contains psychoactive tryptamines, but I am not sure what it is.

Agreed.

That first one looks like a Leucoagaricus or maybe some kind of Lepiota, I would advise against eating it.

Was thinking maybe this. Not a lot to go on, though.

The first one is an Agaricus - not active.

The second one is Copelandia and is active.
