It's all about ratios. A sub depth of around 3" is preferred depending on the size of your tub and height of your holes in the tub a 1:1 - 4:1 cvg:spawn seems to be acceptable for most.

It'll be thin as shit using a low ratio. I keep running into that problem.
Buy a much smaller tub than you'd usually use.

With a 27 I'd probably do like a 3:1 cvg:spawn once again depending on your mono hole size and placement.

Measure the length and width of the inside of your tub in inches(sorry metric people, I'm a stupid American). Then decide your substrate depth(H).
Calculate the following:
L" x W" x H" = cubic inches of substrate(This includes your spawn too)
Then divide that number by 57.75.
The result will be how many quarts of substrate you need to fill your tub. Keep in mind that this number includes your spawn.
Example:
15" x 21" x 3" = 945 cubic inches
945 / 57.75 = 16.36 quarts
12 quarts substrate + 4 quarts spawn = 16 quarts - 3:1 ratio
This calculation will get you pretty damn close to where you want to be.
The ratio of bulk to spawn is totally a preference thing. Speaking for myself, I like to use a 3:! or 4:1 ratio. The way I see it, bulk sub is a hell of a lot easier and less time consuming to prepare than spawn, so I use more of it. It takes a little longer to colonize this way, but not that much longer.
Anyways, hope this helps you. Good luck!!

Ah I see so I am going with 3:1 so that'd be 2 QTS spawn and 6 qts substrate correct I'm sorry I've just been really dabbed out all day

Its personal preference really. I use 1:1 at times when I want really fast colonization and the sub to take a more direct advantage of the nutrients. 2:1 for a "normal" tub, generally 2:1 holds a lot more water and will support a larger pinset obviously.

Ok so i spawned the 2 qts to around 4 and a half qt jars of tightly packed(Doh ) and pasteurized. sub was 1 brick of coir to 2 and 1/2 quarts of verm. About all of it fit in 6 jars so i just made sure it was all at 3 inches in my 27 qt tub (including spawn).
I have the mono all taped up and in a trash bag. Do I need the trash bag? Also I couldn't get the liner on the inside so i just wrapped it around the bottom and sides so nothing pins underneath when i fruit. I read side pins are more a humidity thing.
so how do you guys think I've done for my first mini mono?

I never use a bag and liner. As long as it isn't getting a huge amount of fae down the sides of the tub it'll be fine. I kind tuck in the sides of my tubs so water doesn't run down the sides of the substrate and creates a gap for side pins until the 2nd or 3rd flush.
At some point during flush 2-3 it'll pull away from the sides anyway, and those side pins will have enough room sometimes to go nuts.
