How fast will a flow hood cool 500ML of agar?

I'm in a bit of a time crunch...just turned off MY PC and I'm waiting for it to cool so I can pull out my agar. If I leave the hot agar in front of the flow hood while I shower and change into clean work clothes- how long can I leave the agar in front of the hood before it sets up and is useless?
Will setting the agar flask in a tub of 100F water work as a buffer to let it cool to the tight temp and not set up?

Bodhisatta said: put them in 47ºC water bath. your agar jars are hotter than 47 so the water bath will warm up. once it cools back down to 47ºC then you're ready to pour.

ready to use
if you pour your dishes correctly at the low temperature you'll end up with something like this
near the top of the stack you might get a few dishes with some condensation, I actually like to pour stacks tall, so I do them 10 high, if you do a bunch of short stacks you get a bunch of dishes with a little bit of condensation if you do a stack of 10 you get 7-8 perfect dishes and 2 you may have to fix.
how do you fix them?
use a cup with warm water and a flat bottom, put it on top of the dish for a few seconds-minutes (wont hurt if the water is warm-hot) and boom your dishes are crystal clear again.
Why 47?
Quote:
Agar exhibits hysteresis, melting at 85 °C (358 K, 185 °F) and solidifying from 32–40 °C (305–313 K, 90–104 °F). This property lends a suitable balance between easy melting and good gel stability at relatively high temperatures.
I find it starts to gel back up at about 107F or 42C most of the time at the gel strength used for plates. at 47C you can pour a whole sleeve of plates before it gels up on you. and pouring at as low of a temperature as possible minimizes condensation a lot.
to get agar to melt again you have to go all the way back up to 85C, once it is gel simply heating it 47+ won't melt it.
Using more or less A-A in your recipe will make these temperatures and the stiffness of the agar plates a little bit different. Everything here assumes 20g/L or 8g/400mL(20 plates worth)

may as well do it the right way if you're going to do it

If I'm pouring agar, I pull it out of the autoclave and set it in a BSL cabinet. Then I get my materials, which takes less than 5 minutes, and I sit and watch the jar. Pour as soon as I can comfortably hold the jar with a nitrile glove. Since I'm using a BSL cabinet most of the time, I usually leave my agar dishes to set uncovered to avoid moisture.

Wasn't my post helpful? I leave the agar in my PC for 2-3 hours after i turned the heat off. I check the agar jars after 2 hours. If they feel comfortable and not too hot I start to pour. The colder the agar mixture, the less condensation after pouring.

Sorry, I was on a short time schedule, I didn't have my usual 2 hours to wait.
I let the pressure in the PC drop to zero, and pulled out the agar. It was at about 170F I put it in a large Pyrex measuring cup full of 100F water, and it dropped to about 150F. I took a shower and did my final prep work and it was about 120-130.
I probably poured it a little on the hot side and got some condensation, so I flipped the dishes over to let them finish cooling.
I'll try to use the hot water bath again next time and give it the right amount of time to work.
I used a heaping teaspoon of activated charcoal in the 500ML agar mix and the plates came out a rich jet black.
