Had a middle aged gentleman who was also hunting in the same area as myself and a buddy get super agro on us. Apparently stepping in a planter is a no no. He came up all huffy and puffy telling us not to step in the planter because we would step on more than we would find. We tried to tell him that we were being careful but the dude would not stop talking about how fed up he was with people fucking up patches and talking to us like we were children. What a prick. I can sympathize about people being careless and raping patches but give someone the benefit of the doubt before laying into them. Making snap judgments when you don't know the whole story is never a good idea.

should have told him to f off. can't stand people who get all holier than though attitude. .

Yep. Remember that spot we went to that just had ant hills and the shredded mounds of decaying bush surrounding us? Bugs eat the caps of the rock-hard cyan stems, which is why I'll pick blued stems off them. Ant hills on the coast are both great bud bad things to see haha. There's wood around. They go to sleep when it gets colder and those areas finally have caps again, and start fruiting from the tops not just the sides or surrounding them on the floor. Sometimes they look like little sticks but they're beefy cyan stems.

What do you think?  I only took one because I had no scissors.  Stipe didn't seem white enough but seems to bruise to blue but could be black.

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you! My first active find in 20 years. I've been into edibles for seven years but actives have been tough. All the urban woodchip seeking behavior has paid off for the last 4 years.  I'm going to do a container with some cardboard and nurture something to spread.

Thanks again for the help.

Spore printing now.

Glad to see you're on board! Many congrats to you, PNWrain.

Don't forget to take good photographs of your mushrooms, so when you make an identification thread we can help you. Make sure to get a picture of the gills, how the gills do or don't attach to the stem, and of course print them. I use foil because some species drop white spores you wouldn't see on a piece of paper. Habitat shots or what they're growing in helps immensely.

When you make an ID thread, a template will pop up for you to fill in the blanks. And sometimes the smallest detail makes a difference, like a different smell, or they were growing on the outskirts of a patch, or in huge abundance but only on ____ but not on ____ etc.

Cheers and again congratulations on your find. It's my second year doing actives but my first doing edibles. Stay safe, and when there's 1 mushroom there's more.

Awesome!!  Excited for you.  I love the feeling of finding them.  Every time.  Hunting actives can be tough for sure.  It seems every time I go looking for Chanterelles I find at least a couple, but its not like that with psilocybe.....So many woodchips....without actives......

They wouldn't call it hunting if you spent most of your time finding. It would just be collecting.

Liloldme might be able to give you some insight into what that's like.

I'm positive that these are allenii now. There is on cyan in the same pot as well. Hope they don't take over.

And now, the super anticlimactic presentation of a half eater azurescens pin. Fingers crossed for more pins soon!

Hi guys.  I've been stalking this topic this morning and I gotta say awesome job to all those amazing finds this season.  It's been pretty damn productive.
:asianofapproval:

Yesterday I went to check on a spot I've been watching for years.  It's a half mile long strip of wood chips near a freeway entrance.  A perfect riparian area the city put up... I have been waiting and waiting for the wood chip to ripen... and then blam after 3 years.  Well worth the wait.

This is the biggest flush I've ever found in about 8 years of hunting.  The ground literally carpeted... as far as the eye can see.

Keep up the good work everybody!
