Polypore (?) identification
    #23795936 - 11/02/16 09:15 PM (7 years, 2 months ago)

Found in Northeastern Ohio, unsure of type of tree that it's growing on. Nearby trees include oak (in abundance), maple, alder and various coniferous trees. Its position in relation to the sun's daily rising and falling allows for some direct exposure however it is mostly sheltered by the remains of its host trunk (as well as coverage from surrounding trees). It is growing on the inner of the rotting trunk as well as the outter, the pictures show the inner trunk growth for it is a more adequate and larger specimen than the outter side growth which leads me to think that perhaps it prefers less direct sunlight exposure (the trunk is about 3.5 feet in diameter and mostly hollow so I don't believe it favored inner trunk growth due to more ideal microclimate provided by enclosed remains of a trunk, it was wide open). We have been experiencing usual fall weather here, with temperatures having already dipped to near freezing within the past two weeks, as well as decent amounts of rain paired with mildly sunny days. Warm days have been high 60's to 70's, humidity as usual around 50% low up to 60 or 70% high. The rotting trunk appears to be very old and well into its decomposition. Other types of finds in the same area include reishi and maitake. I sincerely hope that someone has knowledge of this species for I find it absolutely astonishing to view, first time seeing it and amber secretions!
I can provide further information or pictures if needed, minus microscopy

Thanks so much, Alan. Not sure why I had such difficulty IDing for it being rather common. Next up,  mushroom conserve!
