Verifying mushroom type?

Hey all quick question about verifying a mushroom type. Because I'm not sure of the genetics that I'm working with, I am fruiting a couple of jars that I inoculated from a spore syringe. So far so good things are pinning and I have what I thought I would have (not oyster or whatever). Didn't want to G to G without knowing. Blah blah blah. Here's the question. I am now going into agar with prints and syringes from different sources and need to verify things again. Can I fruit a plate to check things out? That seems like it would save time.

I think fruiting a bit of it from grain or a couple BRF cakes is probably the fastest and cheapest way to verify what you're looking at. I guess you might get pins from an agar plate but I don't know about that. Maybe make an extra rich plate?

A deep and high nute plate will pin and fruit. Invort pinning is a great way to start out clean cultures

agar plates are just not design to be fruited from. Best to keep cultures on plates, and fruit with a tray or monotub or spawn or PF jars.

Thanks all. Being Canadian, we don't have any sponsored vendors on this site, so based on my reading here things could be very hit ot miss with viability. So far so good.

Much appreciated folks. So.... to fruit the plate for whichever reason, you put into grow cycle and leave the lid on until pinning starts and then pull the lid? Feeling stoked right now. PCing 1st agar batch right now and having a go at a spore print. Since I'm only doing a 500ml batch of agar to start and that should give me 15-20 plates...if all goes well...what do I do with the other 5-10 plates from the sleeve? I assume they get left in there, but is that ok to do? Is it better to try to use a whole sleeve?
