What would prisoner #1 do about condensation on the inside of his windows?

Besides not getting into the situation in the first place, of course.
When the air inside isn't moist and the ventilation is good, it seems to only point to dud window seals.
It's not even that cold and the condensation is already throwing its weight around.
I believe the windows were freshly sealed 2 years ago and you don't ever want to break the seal.

have you considered window replacement to insulated units, they reduce thermal transfer and dont allow for condensation, getting vinyl clad windows will also eliminate rotting of the sashes

When a window frame has broken the seal of your window once, it will always keep breaking the seal even if you have them repaired. It's a structural thing. Too much pressure on the window when the temperature changes and the frame expands/compress. I have learned this the hard way.
get new windows that are 1/16th of an inch smaller. Have them custom cut if you have too.

vinyl clad windows have minimal expansion and contraction during temperature changes, wood sash windows will have far more movement due to humidity, sealing a window is as simple as using a suitable caulk, dont buy some retarded ass dap or white lightning acrylic/latex/silicon caulk, it will always have issues with pulling away from the substrate when wood contracts and will allow for water penetration. what's needed is a good polyurethane construction sealant such as CR Lawrence M66 or M64, Sikaflex A1 or something available in most home improvement stores is the PL Premium Polyurethane
nearly every replacement window is custom made to existing openings, going with off the shelf shit will lead to water infiltration or windows that bind
none of this addresses the condensation issue, that comes from single pane glazing, a single pane allows for condensation to start forming due to the humidity in the home contacting a cold window, it's a thermal transfer issue, not a problem with sealing an envelope

Yeah, next year my GF (who owns the house) wants to get some windows.
It will cost about a grand for 2 windows, 3ftx4ft sized windows, one on each wall.
Definitely looking forward to the upgrade.

can you guys do the work yourself, it should be around $600 for the two windows with installation unless you go with some over priced shit like anderson or pella, definitely stay away from anything claiming to be a triple pane window
start by getting pricing through these guys, I've bought a lot from them
