air pump [gas exchange in fruiting chamber]
    #2379437 - 02/26/04 02:00 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Hey, I'm spawning to straw in a 34.5"x17.7"x15.7" rubbermaid (111 qt/105 liter)and want to use an  aquarium air pump w/ bubble stones for gas exchange/humidification.  Will this work?  I initially purchased a 5-15 gallon/single outlet aquarium air pump and 5" bubble stone, and now realize this may well not be sufficient for gas exchange.  How powerful of a pump would be appropriate (definitely two bubble stones, I imagine)? Also what would be a good timer schedule for this pump (i believe i read "3 hours on, 3 hours off").
Forgive me if this post betrays any ignorance on my part.  Thanks in advance for any advice.

pet store, they're for aquariums. you should just get bigger bubble stones, i've seen some that are like 2 feet long. get a couple of those babies and you're set.

Cool.... should I get a two-outlet air pump, or just a splitter for this one, or just run it through both with this outlet?

10 gal = ~38000 cc so run them long enough to do 38000 cc per aquarium.....i need to run mine about half an hour to get a full air exchange

you need a bubble stone becuase you need to dunk the stone in a perioxide fiiled container and pace it in the chamber this ensure that the air is as clean as possible.
