I understand the practical benefits but for the chemical process of dissolving THC into oil I do not see how adding water would help.
No. It will just be dissolved by the oil not the water. Other solvents in a solution do not impede the other solvents from dissolving things.
And the idea behind adding water is so you can strain it with less loss to the filter than if you strained thick oil. I never add water but pits of people do. Its a legit method. Probably acctually more common than using straight oil. But i dont strain anyway so fuck it.
i'm confused now.... should i add the water or not??? it makes sense to me to add water for the reasons you've stated.... but i've had people say you don't need water.
this is my first time making canna oil, so please excuse all the questions. i just wanna get it right. i wanna use the entire pound too, if possible lol.

Dont let these people who dont understand the chemistry behind edibles confuse you.
Im not teying to sound like a dick but it is true the guys who are saying not to add water dont understand why people are adding water or what happens whrn you use water. So dont let them fuck with you.

i mean it makes total sense to me to add water, since the goodies are not water soluble.
aside from oil, water, trim, a pot, cooking tray, and an oven, do i need anything else?

I like to use measuring cups for mixing the weed with the oil because they are easy to pour without spilling. Mine are pyrex so i can do a double boiler with them aswell. You might not need it since yours will be easy to pour.
I also use a rubber spatula to get every bit of oil that i can out of the measuring cup. Again yours will be easy to pour so you may not need it.
Good luck sanch. Dont forget to update us.
Yeah logical i agree.

I've done it both ways for a long time and I much prefer just using a double boiler. In the bottom you put water. In the top you put your shake/bud & oil.
The double boiler prevents the oil from getting too hot, and you don't have to mix water, strain, seperate, wait for it to cool, all that stuff....
Just cook, and strain or no strain and you're done. I've met some people who prefer the water method but I'm not sure why. Maybe see which you like better if you can't decide on one way or another. Split it and make two batches. Try both ways out.

Coconut oil is VERY healthy. So is cow butter.
Saturated or unsaturated is how you feel after you ate it.
Dont believe the diet mafia. pigs fed unsaturated oil get fat and pigs fed coconut oil get lean.
The Lauric acid that is 2/3 of coconut oil is a major component, 10%, of human breast milk.
Educate yourself. Liberate yourself.

The only bad fat is trans fat. I eat as much fat as possible and it's helped me become more muscular. Fat is what your body uses to make testosterone. The enemy is sugar and simple carbs and trans fats and chemical additives, not fats.
Fats are your friend .
Also I fucked up . I have been having the odd beer secretly when I am supposed to be sober for November and I was supposed to go to a meeting with my friend last night and I passed out from pot edibles and slept through it.
So yeah I am moonshoe and I'm an alcoholic. I'll pray to God for help and set my intention to abstain from alcohol anew.

I would just to prevent water loss due to evaporation. If for some reason you dont want to then just add some water in once in a while.
