I have been using only pf jars sterilized in pots by the 1 hour steam method and want to get a pressure cooker. I have looked on the net and i cant find any that list what psi each are capable of. Just wondering where you guys got yours because i notice a large price discrepancy between many of the cookers.

If you buy a used one & you live in the states you can call your local "County extension office" (Look that up under your county listings in the phone book, that's exactly what they're called) & tell them you have a pressure cooker you want to have tested. They'll check it out for you.
A pressure cooker will almost always be good but if it explodes & you're in the kitchen when it does, you'll likely have shrapnel in you. If you buy a used one look at the bottom first. If it looks rounded it's had a buildup of pressure in it sometime and the metal is now weakened. Pass this one up.
If you have a guage like mine does, that County extension office will tell you how far off your guage is. If it reads 15 pounds but actually is five pounds inside, you won't be sterilizing. If it reads 15 pounds but is 30 pounds inside, you have a bomb.
I believe the county extension office testing is free as a public service. They want to be sure people who can their foods aren't going to be poisoning themselves by undercooking & this way your cooker/canner is assured to be safe & do the job.

This is not true.
Some cheap ass pressure cookers do not go over 10.

Be careful what you buy. Cheap is not always best.
You can pick up a good used All American pressure cooker on Ebay.
Good luck!~

Most newer PC's have a bunch of safety valves so they dont go over 15psi. The mirro has a lil safety valve that would pop out if the main steam hole were to be clogged and then no BOOM

Fee,
That's a great deal! New ones you can get parts for.
I found mine for about $7.00 & it's about 22 quarts but it was made in the late 40's & the company is out of business so there's no replacement parts anywhere for it. I made my own gasket and had the guage calibrated so I know it accurately reads 15 pounds. It's a thick canner & holds the heat & pressure in (No rocking weight on top). It takes about five hours before the pressure is low enough to open it without using the relief valve.
Nice on this one is it will not cool down too fast. bad is you do need to be watching it for an hour to be sure it doesn't build up too much pressure.

A friend and I walked into a dorm room where laundry was soaking in a 17 qt. Presto, removed the laundry and left with everything but the rocker. The guy on the couch said that no one ever used it and gave us his blessing. I miss living in a dorm.

I got an All American Pressure Cooker/Canner on Amazon.com right before Christmas. I got a 21.5 quart one for $99 and Free Shipping. That was a helluva deal as they'll cost you well over 200 and you pay for shipping at lots of other places. Check Amazon, do a search for All American...
