Oyster kits

So, I have these oyster grow kits (which I will use their fruits to make some spore prints and get some clones going) that look like these (but I didn't strat fruiting them yet):

and the instructions that came with them say that I should cut the bag in a plus shape on one side and water while keeping the bags in the cardboard box; like this:

I was wondering if this is the best way to fruit these bags, or is there a better way of doing it?

Hey Tira,
Follow the instructions and you should be good. You might put them in the window seal so they can catch a breeze and get sun. You could also grow them on the porch (looks like Turkey has pretty warm weather on average - not sure where you're located). Pinks are pretty aggressive and like warmer temps. As far a propagating them, you'll have much better luck taking a tissue sample from inside a fruit as opposed to starting them up from spores. Hope this helps!

Hi Tirra, one my favorite oyster cultures came from a clone I took from a kit like that, it's a good place to start. Good luck and keep us posted on it

Wouldn't the heat from sunlight hurt them? I had cubes dying like that before.
I have a SGFC that has led lightings under its lid that are on 12/12 and a working fan facing away from the SGFC and I've put the kit right next to it so it is recieveing both light and fresh air.
Turkey is warm at summers and springs but can get cold during winter .)
What about cutting a little bit of mycelium from inside the kit and mixing it with pasterurized substrate in order to expand, would that work?

Use the SGFC with no lid, so you will need to hover the light over it. Oysters need a massive amount of fresh air constantly.

First , bright artificial lights are fine. The trick is high humidity with plenty of fresh air , pinks are tropical so 70-80°. You could take a bit of mycelium that would be simpler than a clone.

SGFC is for cubes, I've placed the oyster kit right beside the SGFC so it recieves light and fresh air. Should I build another FC for the kit or is it fine to fruit in open air?

Open air is fine I make and sell Oyster kits in the UK, (mainly just for Xmas). I supply a free mini mister bottle and tell people to put the kit on a window sill, out of direct sunlight/drafts and mist it when they see it - but at least 2 x /day. Never understood the need to soak though I just have them cut a big + and mist. Works fine

I ment to use the SGFC as a container for bulk, no lid for fruiting, monotub.

Don't take a spore print, you want to take a tissue sample. Preferably onto a few petri dishes in a SAB then onto sterilized hydrated grain in jars.
an okay example of transfering a tissue culture.
