Is anyone else really arty?
    #23790295 - 11/01/16 01:22 AM (7 years, 2 months ago)

I cant do art for shit in basically any variety.

Although I do fucking love art, in all kinds.

I think its magically that two souls can connect across the world and feel as though someone actually understands you. Or that two souls can connect through art together in one place only unifying that bond.

For me at least Elliott Smith is my favourite artist. He truly understood misery, addiction, love, trauma. Everything. His songs are so vague, yet convey such repeatable yet so so so specific situations. I have a tattoo of his art ffs :P

Then there is film. I love film... so much. Especially art films. Notable refn, drive, the neon demon. Films meant to provoke emotion, good or bad.

Then the original, the almighty painting. Something about paintings have stood the test of time. To portray human life and emotion visually is quite special.

Then finally true beauty. When you look at the one you love and realise you've found happiness and meaning in life.

Although once you've seen true beauty.
Any other miracle pales to live up to what once was.

painting is one that seems the most difficult to me, maybe that's why I don't get into paitning much, cos I cant understand how that stuff even happens. I can sort of see the artistic process in music or books.

I havent listened to elliot smith in years. if anyone in my circle then was found to be listening to elliot smith it was kind of a joke to get overly concerned for their mental state..lol....but I used to listen to him when I had to walk two miles to work in a foot of snow every day which surely would have drawn comments from my friends had they known

I love photography. I'm horrible at anything that uses my hands but with a camera it's more about the angle, lens, and digital settings.

yea... I have no idea how to make a painting. But I can certainly appreciate it and the symbolism.

There is something about art that convey things that words will never.

On the surface, yes elliott smith is a sad singer/songwriter. But if you really listen to him, his songs are so complex and he can make a cheap guitar sound amazing. His guitar work is almost perfect (when he had it together). His lyrics are up there with dylan, clapton and the rest.

what about art that uses words? I mean novels, poetry? reading words that get me to see and feel something is something I consider to be a very high art form. ive read finnegans wake several times...the end of the book is one of the weirdest feelings I can get when reading something(its one hell of a slog getting to the "end" though;))

and hey didn't mean to put him down, I had to go find xo and it still feels good

Ive personally never been a text kinda person. Unless a book is a world renowned classic I generally cant get through them.

Poetry is eh... unless its from someone you care about. Songs are basically poetry but better. But I do respect great poets. Not for me though.

poetry is a form of music. a poem is an individual in a community of poems, and the words therein are of the community of the poem.

anything involving elocution is essentially a form of music.

lyricism can be found in the visual arts too.

music is the standard. t' is why the Greeks termed the Muses as they did.

(PS: art-house and experimental film is the shit, just like classic films. new timey films...not the same degree of artistic integrity, but still, can be an artistic achievement in the technical sense, ie, direction, writing, cinematography, acting, ect)

(PPS: all art is important. art is how people make connections.)

No but I'm really edgy.  I only like punk rock and watching gay porn for inspiration.

the pub is wholeheartedly averse to art, as a concept. it's pussy shit. we need more hard hitting topics like jerbs that pay, real money you know.

more boring lifestyle shit. ya. i totally wreaked my Funion dispenser when i drank too much last night, oh well, gotta go to my sweet oil rig gig.
