Ok I might be buying some equipment but I don't want to be those people who use it for a bit then gets bored and pretty much wastes their money. I know a few people like this mainly with more traditional instruments. So what is everyone elses experience?

Do you have software already? You can learn the art of DJ'ing through software, Traktor would be best but hey fam virtual DJ is free and pretty great. That's all I have to say, I don't have any analog equipment, but I'm sure that stuff is great too I just don't know anything about it.

I used to DJ. I still have my turntables, but don't really use them. Have been meaning to get back into the bedroom dj thing, but not parties/clubs ever again. What kind of equipment are you looking to get, and what's your goal with it?

A good friend of mine does. Went to Denver for audio engineering school. I always love playing with his equipment. So fun.
It's a lot of work and a lot of knowledge that goes into it. Whether you get bored of it or not is entirely up to you. This kid loves it.

Software nowadays makes really basic DJing is easy as fuck, its practically automatic, just pick up traktor or even Djay which makes it stupid easy, you dont even need turntables. I'm talking about really basic stuff, just simple but smooth transitions to keep things flowing. You could probably practice for a month and do a better job than most of the DJs I hear while bar hopping in the city

Ya my friend actually produces and make his own stuff. But I've definitely been out and the dj can't even make a basic transition totally throwing everyone's flow off. Horrible haha.

I would get a CDJ you could use as a midi controller and hook tht up to Traktor on your computer and record mixes and give yourself an internet dj name and promote your stuff on forums and dj websites, that's good fun. Then if you want to play live at a aparty you can just hook hte cdjs up ot a sound system like the pros do. Traktor has a lot of effects you can fuck around with. Sometimes I have off times where I get disinterested but I always end up getting into it again. So if you're really into electronic music I'd say go for it. Just don't sell them when you get bored, wait till you become interested again.

Get serato or time code. It means you can load up tracks directly from a computer rather then having to burn 5000 CDS and keep a massive CD wallet.
Or if you've got money, I think the new gen decks have USB slots and you can just use those. They cost alot though.

i do a little bedroom djing. Basically it evolved from always making CDs for my friends of what I'm currently listening to to just making straight up mixes. Occasionally I'll dj bars or house parties for friends.
I use a traktor kontrol S2 with Traktor Pro. Perfect set up I think for someone just beginning or isn't super serious about it.

I have Dj equipment right now, but havent used it in awhile cause i dont have the ttable or the room to set it up (living with my GF right now).
My set up:
2x Numark TTX USB turntables with Odyessey budget cases Native Instruments Scratch Duo emulator system w/ vinyl Desktop (or laptop) - U can only install the full version on one system American Audio mixer
Cost about $1400 total about 4 years ago i would say. Still need a mini hi fi system and a portable table to complete it.
Its an awesome system. I went with a vinyl emulator and turntables cause of the flexiability: u can mix old vinyls OR u can use your vinyl timecode with Scratch Duo and spin digital files using your laptop/PC.
Its a lot of fun and pretty addicting. U might get bored, but i find there is so much music to mix out there, u pretty much cannot get bored over time.
Just take tolerance breaks!
Really fun when your tripping. And that feeling when u mix two tracks and it sounds awesome is priceless
