Plastic Lids v.2

Hi all, In order to familiarize myself w/ different ways of doing things, I've been reading several of SpitballJedi's older teks. So far I'm waiting on my first ever pf tek cakes to finish fruiting in a mini sgfc, but I've picked up some of the supplies he used so I can expand into grain/monotubs/agar/etc.
My plates are already growing healthy mycelium from spores, (why did I bother to purchase more than one syringe... *slaps forehead) and today I picked up some Synthetic Filter Discs to follow his Plastic Lids v.2 tek, (found here https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/20048747/fpart/1/vc/1).
Before I start drilling and glueing, does anyone know if this method is now considered outdated and/or a foolish use of supplies? I've got the quart jars, plastic lids, SFDs, and some high temp gasket maker glue. Also, what kind of lifespan do these lids/sfd's have? EDIT: Here is a pic of what SpitballJedi made.
 Thanks as usual.

I hate to inoculate through polyfill because it does not recover as good as silicone does. It still works. An DIY injection port is easy. Drilling a hole, roughen up the surface of the plastic around the hole, silicone. Done.

I keep the sfd's whole. The pros at aloha use metal lids, though I got about 50/50 plastic/metal I'll soon switch to all metal lids/bands
-------------------- But if you're in a hurry, and really got to go If you're in a hurry, might have to find out slow That it's one thing to try and another to fly You get there quicker just a step at a time It's one thing to bark, another to bite The show ain't over till you pack up at night

It's best to leave the filter discs unadulterated.

I would also like to use filter discs but they only fit on American jars. The European twist off lids don't work with whole SFDs :/
How to make add an injection port if you use the whole disk? Another aspect is that you could save some money by cutting them in peaces.
