rent a Humvee. The H1, not a fake one. If they don't like the way you drive, they can get off the fucking sidewalk.

Get a subaru. I put mine through hell and finally retired it over the spring, it still ran but the fix to make it pass inspection exceeded the value(it was a late 90's legacy) of the car itself and it was my first car so I figured it was time.
I got a suzuki and I miss my subie.

Whenever I rent a car I just go with a Jetta
Most places have em, small, quick, good fuel economy, easy to drive and park, reliable, and really good safety ratings

Are you buying a new car or just renting one? If renting go with whatever is cheapest.
If buying then don't buy any of the cars you just listed. You will regret that. Buy a nice used car and check out carcomplaints.com to see what problems it might have before you buy it.

I've never heard of someone renting a car for a year. Is your insurance paying for it or something? If its coming out of your pocket I would just buy a beater and drive that or at least get a good price off priceline.com.
If I rent I usually try to get a luxury car that I wouldn't normally consider buying. If you're on a budget just get the cheapest they have and save your money.

Renting a car for a year sounds like you should be buying a bus pass.

People will laugh, but get an old buick lesabre, they are really cheap for repairs (if/when needed. Mine was 800 total parts and labor to have new suspension, and other repairs were in the low 100's, I replaced all the seals and gaskets etc...), and mine gets 20 hwy and 30 city, its a 1997, I'll look for a newer one when this one dies or I sell it. Cruises on the road too. Mine was 4500 cash and had only 36,000 original miles on it (garage kept, the paint was like new, ice cold ac). You can find older folks that have them with low miles and taken care of, also its a low pro type car. 2006 was the last year they made them. 3.8 litre V6 engine. The first 2 mechanics I took it to to check it out before buying it tried to buy it from me. They are dependable.

Get a diesel. Like a TDI. I used to have a '10 Jetta TDI and I got 42-45 mpg. Or 400+miles per tank.
Now I have a BMW 330i and am lucky to even get 23 miles per gallon. I miss my TDI.

I see those things riding around with rims bigger and more expensive than the car itself.

That's pretty boss. I have a regular gas engine half the size and one less cylinder than your jetta and I only get 41mpg.
