How close does proper lighting have to be for fruiting? I will be using 6500k daylight bulb.  Thanks

If there's enough light for you to read a book in your room your good.

I usually just lay a fluorescent on the tops of my tubs.

Light isn't a huge for fruits fresh air exchange is.

6500k or more (artificial wont burn), 2000 lumens as far as 8 foot away.
LED is cheaper to run, no UV or Infrared, no pulse either.

LED is also instant on, and can take humidity.

So, the lighting should be placed directly above fruiting chamber on the outside?

Unless you want +2°C and want to modify everything no, on the outside is fine.

Hi Ferather, thanks for your input. Van Hatton mentioned the importance of open air flow.  Is the holes I drill in my terrarium sufficient or should there be some fanning going on?

this is how i do my lights
26W CFL(replaced 100W) 6500k
they're about 1500-1700 lumens usually

fanning isn't a replacement for fresh air exchange. you have to fan 6-10 times an hour to make up for holes that give passive air exchange

if I didn't do that I would buy some 2 or 4 foot T8 6500K bulbs and a fixture

One last question. I appreciate everyone's patience since I am new to all of this. How many hours do I leave the light on?

12/12, natural, so 12 hours on, 12 off. I think you can also do 18 on, 6 off, not sure.

Passive fresh air exchange is the most important thing for fruiting next to moisture content. The more holes the better as long as you can keep your humidity up next to the sub and not dry it out.

The light doesn't have to be above it.When stacking monos a 48 inch florescent is usually leaning up aginist the side of the tubs.

I usually just go 12/12. I have been looking into leds sounds nice.
