Is it a general rule of thumb that I should avoid all white gilled mushrooms?
These have been popping up all over my back yard.

Think it's worth taking a tissue sample? Google says it's edible. Of course I'd have to grow it out on a PF cake for better identification.

There are some deadly mushrooms that have white gills, and some edible ones, but there are a number of deadly, brown-gilled mushrooms too. It is very possible to learn about the differences. Just don't eat any mushroom you couldn't identify with certainty, whatever the gill colour.

That's a question I can't answer...I unfortunately abhore the taste of all mushrooms.

That's pretty funny considering where we are

Sir, yes sir. I shall see what I can do about identifying this mushroom. Looks mighty tasty.

Here's one I picked yesterday, and one I picked about 3 days ago.
The print appears to be white

Thank you, boss. In this instance I couldn't throw out an ID confirming edibility, since you'd like to eat this, if it wasn't clear to you how to distinguish anything toxic, so please do make sure you stay cautious and read up.

Mykoweb said: Beginning mycophagists should avoid this species because of its resemblance to deadly white Amanitas. In our area this would include the white form of Amanita phalloides as well as Amanita ocreata. These two Amanitas can be distinguished by the presence of a sac-like volva and a membranous, fixed ring.
Though I agree with DavidReishi it seems to be Leucoagaricus leucothites.

Or be reassured if a couple of others chime in - am thinking about your health and being cautious but I don't really doubt the species here, but you don't know me so I want you to get extra reassurance on principle. Depending how much you want to forage and how much you want to learn, a microscope is an excellent idea. A good regional field guide is probably initially more use, so that you can see some arrangement of the genera and note what distinguishes each species.

That's how I feel too, I don't see any egg-like sack near the base of the stem, and the caps color look dead on. They look pretty tasty. Testing field mushrooms is like the skydiving of mycology. I just don't wanna go in unprepared. Am likely going to clean it up on agar and try my luck on a pf cake.
Edit: Is there thee equivalent to an anti-venom for mushrooms such as the death cap and destroying angel?

There is good evidence for silibinin, extracted from Milk Thistle, helping to block the action of toxins in the liver, although that is not any kind of failsafe. I do keep some Milk Thistle extract in the 1st aid cupboard but the thought of having to use it for this it is a disturbing one!

Nice, did you munch it, or cultivate it?

I doubt it could be cultivated without a lot of trial and error. And hell no I would never try that. There's good mushrooms out there

You didn't eat it or grow it? Well damn. I'm going to take that as further reinforcement that it takes some balls and a leap of faith and just a little bit of stupid to eat these things. Curiosity has me wanting to munch them so bad though. Like I said, it's like sky-driving.

Its Leucoagaricus leucothites and its edible, I eat them when I find them. When picking them make sure they do not have a volva like a destroying angel (Amanita ocreata) would. Additionally keep your eyes out for L. barsii which is also edible and looks about the same without the smooth cap. The Agaricus species that look similar won't have white gills at that stage and will be brown.
