Pins Aborting and Micropore Question
    #23788519 - 10/31/16 12:52 PM (7 years, 3 months ago)

Half of my pins keep growing fuzzy feet, and thick mycellium at the base, and eventually they abort.  What is the main cause of this, am assuming its the FAE?

My substrate is soft to the touch, and it is not drying out. I fan 3-4 times daily and mist only when necessary.  My tubs have 4 holes (1 1/4") and they are covered with micropore.

How good does Micropore hold in humidity, and how good does Micropore allows FAE, Would more holes be recommended?

You are fanning too much. You should be fanning never and misting when
necessary.

If you are worried about holding in humidity then fanning is counter intuitive.

Tubs should have six holes: Two located up high on the tub and four
located just above surface of sub. Most people do the two up high on the
short sides of the tub, and the four down low on the long sides, two per side.

Would like to bring this back up for further discussion.

Last night, I read a lot of post on "aborts" from this forum and am now more confused.  So, what causes aborts ?

-Lack of FAE
-Lack of light
-Low RH
-Heavy Misting/ Pooling
-Substrate was not fully colonized
-Lack of Nutrition
-Etc

All of the above.

If you want a proper diagnosis, you should post pics of your pins and your setup.

Monotubs (at least properly built ones) do not require fanning nor misting and polyfill would be a better choice for a filter for you to be able to properly dial in your monotub.

Click on Frank's Teks link from my signature and find the link about dialing your tubs and read.

A properly built and dialed monotub shouldn't require maintenance.
