Liberty Cap Identification - Ireland * 1
    #23788514 - 10/31/16 12:51 PM (7 years, 2 months ago)

Happy Samhain/Halloween

It's been unseasonably bone dry and *warm* in Ireland for the past month or so, and after many fruitless treks across three different counties, I finally found a great spot today. Got about 140+ Liberty Caps. Very happy, and overall very confident with the ID of the vast majority of my haul.

However, I'm a bit of a picking newb, so I figured it'd be best to get a formal, expert assessment!

The terrain, inland, south west Ireland, foot of a mountain range, sheep, good mix of lush dewy grass, gorse and rushes.

A range of sizes, some large, some small... I tossed a few that looked old and manky on re-inspection. I also found some weird ones that I am pretty sure are not Libs but I picked them thinking they were. I'll post a pic of those in a bit - I'd love to know if my radar is remotely accurate

The top right in the last shot is probably Psilocybe semilanceata on grounds that all the others seem to be Psilocybe semilanceata. But maybe double-check that one.

Hey Joie!

Great - thanks for that. You're a legend.

I had a look at that one you pointed out. I'm pretty sure that it's fine, but it looked a bit old and manky anyway so I tossed it.

Cool, so everything looks good otherwise? Excellent. Thanks again.

I picked a small number that I clearly thought were libs but I ended up putting into "miscellaneous" after a closer inspection.

There were loads of mushrooms at the site in groups that I initially thought were libs, but generally they were much lighter underneath - light pinkish - small and much more rounded instead of a pronounced nipple on the top.

The two (maybe three) on the right are examples of these if I recall correctly.

I think the one on the left is a lib, but it just looked a bit off?

The second from the left has a similar shape but a completely incorrect gill colour - almost orangey. Actually, there were a good few out there that seemed to have a good shape but had different gill colours - usually pink.

Anyway, gonna toss these too - I'm just curious about them.

Those might include Entoloma sp., Kenny G. (Protostropharia semiglobata) and a Psathyrella sp. but that's a bit guessy from this. A couple might be libs but if the top is very rounded I guess not.
