You have to know what the fan is capable of at static pressure. Filters have resistance it takes extra force to push air through a filter and force to pull air through a prefilter. Without knowing the cfm at different pressures you are guessing. Usually you source a filter then get a fan. What size filter do you want? Imagine the largest task you need to do at the flow hood and base your size of filter off that. Agar work = small filter. Putting spawn in xl bags = large filter.

You're thinking about it backwards. You should line up your HEPA first, then figure out the blower. The flow ratings for your blower are here in case you're curious.

I want to make one the same as yours. Can you help? I've only done 2 successful monos but this time o have my own space and want to make this right. Lower my contaminants rate and ditch the popcorn and begging with rye berries. I want to make one like yours so I'm more comfortable working. I know I'm still learning in mycology and in some future have a degree in mycology.

You do know there are few jobs in mycology. If I were a young man I would try to get a business type degree. You could be better equipped to someday operate a mushroom farm or one of many other fields of work. As far as the flow hood find a filter at a price you can afford and then someone will help you size a fan. If you are tight on money get a tote and make a still air box for a few bucks. You can do just as good work in one of those.

Thank man. In some future years I will get a degree because I really love the mushroom world. Money is not a problem, I just want to make a big flow hood like the one shroombasa has. Right now I just need to locate the filter and the right fan, I have little to no experience in the math of making one, can only count in the shroomery for guidance.

That's fine all filters are different that's why you get the filter first. I got mine off the bay , lots of surplus ones on there at sometimes bargain prices.
