Possible Gymopilus species?
    #23787527 - 10/31/16 04:34 AM (7 years, 2 months ago)

I found these guys this morning in a beech/birch forest (Central Europe). They were growing on a rotting tree stump, and there were really many of them, 30-40, maybe even more. Unfortunately, most of them seemed pretty old, but I managed to find a few healthier mushrooms and brought them home.

The largest cap is 6 cm wide; the largest stipe 9 cm tall. The fruits have a pleasant mushroomy smell, kind of similar to certain Psilocybe species. Notice also the slightly greenish/bluish coloration on the lower part of the stipes.

I tasted a little chunk of one of the smaller mushrooms. I chewed the chunk a bit, and then spit it out. The taste was mild at first, but bitter after a minute or two.

Night temperatures are mostly 1-2 °C (~ 34 °F). Day temperatures are 10-12 °C (~ 52 °F).

I'm still waiting to see the spore print color.

A rather dark, edible, Armillaria sp., compare A. gallica.

Oh, I see. Thank you.

Nevertheless, interesting mushrooms, especially since their mycelium exhibits bioluminescence. One could do some interesting stuff with them.
