What's happening here?? Is it Mold, mycelium, aliens??
    #23786728 - 10/30/16 08:04 PM (7 years, 2 months ago)

I'm going to post several photos. Here's what's going on:
Birthed pf brf cakes today. Most were fine but 2 jars colonized MUCH faster than the rest. They went an extra 2 weeks in order to give the others time to catch up, so I could birth everything's at once. When I opened those two speedy bastards, I found some kind of white fuzz above the dry Verm layer, myc growing up and around the same layer, and some sort of gel around one of the cakes. I washed the gel off...seems benign enough but I'm new, so what do I know. Any advice is appreciated.

This noob thinks it's good aggressive, rhizomorphic mycelium.  I'd clone that shit.  Prolly have to wait for fruit and get some tissue to put to agar.

By the way, good job!

Haha oh no!! I'm also a noob. First grow. If it really is some amazing specimen, then I'm probably gonna need to learn how to clone asap lol

Agar is fun.  Of course my idea of fun isn't for everyone.  A syringe will last for a long time though.  I bought three syringes when I started back up, and have only used about 3cc's total.  You'll need a SAB or something along that line.  I use a shmuvbox (a desktop hepa filter with a clear trashbag tapped to the output).  It has been working well for me.

Pastywhyte has a great agar tek.  https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/19208415

I'd say you're off to a good start.

Thanks glowdiver, that's good info. I have an SAB but I think I'd prefer something with filtered air, especially with agar. I'll definitely look into it. I appreciate he help.

They look alright for cakes, no worries about the myc reaching, I say just get them fruiting, and just keep a watch out for any off color contams.

Wash ALL of that verm layer off, that has been a filter the entire time so its pretty nasty... Then dunk and roll them... Like said before the "white fuzz" is just myc.
