I don't know anything about him.

But I've been looking for something to read. I haven't gotten into a book in a very long time.

Sounds very interesting, I think I might start with that one.

Favourite is probably Ubik.  He was a reclusive dude from what I know.  A lot of his stories are about the same thing written in a myriad of genius ways.

How are the reads?

I'll admit I'm not the biggest vocab buff LOL. Although I guess reading is one of the best ways to get better.

Not one of the most talked about ones.  try 'the tree stimata of palmer eldritch' or 'UBIK'

the reason I say that is, you should understand his popular works before you try to understand the lesser known novels. his books form a complete body of work about life and death, and reality.

He has his own style and it's not hard to read at all.

I read Valis, was confusing but I liked it. I have the three stigmata ready to go next.

See starfire, were not so different. were both cool dudes who like pkd. we have similar qualities you could say. it just makes sense to add me to that list. I mean I like trump too.

Cosmic Puppets was pretty bizarre and interesting.

Want to read his more popular stuff.

rit.  but i find you ave to read is most articulate novels to understand is lesser ones.

Te Best:

The three stigmata of palmer eldritch
Ubik
A Scanner Darkly

Flow My Tears The Policeman Said
A Maze of Deat
Martian Time-Slip
Time Out of Joint
Our Friends From Frolix 8

The first three are the best of the best.  But 'The three stigmata of palmer eldritch' is the key book in his philosphy.

I've not mentioned 'Valis' and 'The Transmigration of Timoty Archer' which are the cherries that are at the end of his writings.  exceptional.

A writer of great ideas. A great writer...? He certainly didn't seem to belabor the editing process much.

I enjoy him, particularly his short stories.

you are spot-on.  he didn't edit much, which made his novels rather poorly written in terms of correct english; on the other hand, it had the effect of making the initial idea come across very strongly.

You are right, his short stories are superb.

that follows Valis, 'The Transmigration of Timoty Archer, and The Divine Invasion, and was published after he died.  I always consider Dick in terms of the chronolohy of his work.

I know he was and knew a lot of crazy old SOB's and did a lot of drugs.

I have read:

The Man in the High Castle
Dr. Bloodmoney, or How We Got Along After the Bomb
The Crack in Space
The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch
The Zap Gun
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
Ubik
A Scanner Darkly

And a few others I probably forgot, loved them all. I have also seen a few of the movie adaptions of his works which are all pretty interesting.

It surprised me how many movie adaptions have been made actually, at least like 5-10 I believe some of which are low budget obscure films but still worth watching.

Don't worry about me, I've got all that I need. And I'm singing my song to the sky

You know how it feels, With the breeze of the sun in your eyes. Not minding that time's passing by

I've got all and more, My smile, just as before. Is all that I carry with me

I talk to myself, I need nobody else. I'm lost and I'm mine, yes I'm free

Yeah those 2 really stand out for sure, I was pretty young when I was an avid bookworm and read a ton of sci fi so my memories of his works are pretty hazy.

But I remember the plots for those 2 books fairly well. PK Dick along with many other great sci fi/ fantasy authors made me want to write as a kid.

I still occasionally am tempted to start working on some sci fi, hopefully one day I buckle down and get on it as it seems like a ton of fun.

The third kind, or something like that, was phenomenal as I recall it. Really technologically prescient in terms of ethical issues.

Have you read 'Oh, to Be a Blobel!'  That one is really funny and on the money.
