Shrooms from market in Amsterdam
    #2378345 - 02/26/04 08:38 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Hi,
does anyone know this shroom?

They are from a market in Amsterdam. I've never seen them in my area anywhere.
Thanks for your help!

Ok, it seems to be Pleurotus eryngii. But the hat looks strange?

I have no packaging. It was a present from a family member who visited Amsterdam. There where three other different species in this mix, from which I cloned the following (the third was too old):

Any idea what kind of shroom the piece comes from and what are the other ones? They look like Button Mushrooms, but nut exactly.

The piece appears to have teeth which would make the Hydnum genus a possibility. Is it really tough or meaty? But that's a guess.

The piece has a similar consistency to the common Button Mushroom. You're right. It could be Hydnum repandum. But they usually grow in autumn and can't be cultivated because they're mycorrhizal. Or do they grow in spring, too?

I really have no idea, if it had a stem or even a cap for that matter. It could have been a shelf fungi, a tooth fungi, etc. It also seems in North America that the edible tooth fungis grow in autumn, according to my guide . I'm really clueless on everything you've posted.

can you show or describe the bottom of the mushrooms in the first photo? If they have teeth and are not that tough they are probably from Hydnum or related genuses, but since you cultivated them....I don' t know.

There is also the genus Sarcodon which is mycorrhizal also. The only tooth mushrooms I've identified have been Hydnum repandum in Poland: http://www.grzyby.pl/gatunki/Hydnum_repandum.htm

That is odd. Try taking a spore print and checking out the underside of the cap.

They're not active, and I think he knows that.

Hi,
I looked at the agar-plates today. This hobby is always good for surprises. It's the mycelium of the button mushroom look alike; I never saw mycelium growing like that. The orange shroom, which looks like H. repandum did not grow at all.

I will use rye and then straw with wormcasings as substrate.
