Just trying to clear up if it's necessary to your grains after colonization but before you spawn to bulk. Reading spitballs the basics makes it sound like you do but should you if your doing damons5050 into a mono? I get that you soak grains for prep for inoculation, i just wanna make sure it's the only time. I really dont wanna fuck this up.

I don't soak colonized grain before I spawn it. The substrate should provide enough moisture to rehydrate the colonized grain. I read about the soaking method but i never tried it. Maybe someone has experience with the soaking method and could tell if it is beneficial. IMO it has a higher chance to contaminate.

You're not gonna get any one single answer. A lot of it comes down to whether or not you need the extra moisture. If my grains took a little while to colonize, and are looking dry, I might do a dunk. Damion5050's bucket tek comes out slightly dry anyways.
But, you can prep your substrate a little more moist and not dunk. A lot of people here think dunking colonized grains is silly.

When you soak the grains, its only for 15 to 30 min. Just enough to give them some extra moisture for the 1st flush since they just used a lot of energy colonizing the jar. It helps and it doesent add the risk of contams if the grains are 100% colonized. Its essentially the same as dunking brf cakes to rehydrate them.

It adds a contam risk the risk may be low but there is definitely a higher risk. If the water or container where you dunk the grains is not 100% sterile it is possible that bacteria or spores stick on the colonized grain. It won't affect the colonized grain but the substrate it is spawned to. That's why it is a poor comparison to PF cakes. PF cakes are not meant to colonize more substrate (unless you use the crumble and spawn method). As trichoderma germinates and colonizes very fast it is possible that the substrate gets colonized by trich before it gets colonized by grain.
As I wrote there are people that had success with dunking grain. I doubt that the grain would absorb that much water in 15-30 minutes.
That's just my opinion.
