All American 75x questions: Base or no base? Basket or no basket?

Just acquired a 75x... it did not come with the base attachment to prevent heat transfer to the surface. I'm wondering if it is worth purchasing or not at $70, and if anyone has opinions. I think I can use the sterilizer without a stand on the concrete basement floor.
I was also wondering if people use it without the basket ever, and if that changes anything besides my ability to add a couple extra jars.

No you don't need the base just a safe surface to place it on. I used some patio bricks.
No you don't need the basket. And you should remove or ziptie the tube to the top if not using the basket.
some info for use
this ones has some good info too

Thanks for the info bos. Two more questions as I'm now trying it out - what temperature setting do you use to maintain pressure? 3.5, 4? And how long does it take to get there? I feel like my pressure cookers were lightning compared to this guy.

for heat up I have the dial at max. Make sure you have water all the way up to the groove on the inside. then:

when sterilization is complete the instructions say to vent the steam while at full pressure right when you turn it off (dumping the steam) and thus causing jars to break and bags to burst and agar to boil over.
INSTEAD pasty says to Just turn it off and wait to open the valve until the pressure reaches 0 and before it makes a vacuum.
I'm not sure how long it takes to make a vacuum so you probably want to catch it pretty close to when it drops back to 0.
since that post I have been told that you can come back a few hours later and open the valve instead of having to do it as soon as it hits zero.
The number to keep it at the right pressure will vary per situation as I use extention cords with mine and they throw that way off. Also just the temp of the room and so on can effect what number is right.
I think when mine is plugged directly into the wall it is around 4 to keep it going up and down in between 17-20psi.
What I do to get the temp right is wait until it fully reaches 20 psi and then slowly turn the knob down until you see the light shut off. then come back in 5 minutes and make sure it didn't drop too low and it shouldn't go too high after that.
good luck hope that was clear enough I had to read it a couple times to understand it myself
