I don't see you guys joining the military. Do you guys support all the wars in the middle east that cause nothing but more and more problems? Some wars are necessary, but we could avoid most if we acted more responsible and less aggressively. The military spending is also astronomical. Anybody with moderate intelligence can see that the military is mostly wasteful and destructive. If that is what you want to do with your life then go ahead, but I think it is a bad idea.
Most people that I knew before and after joining the army ended up being a little mentally ill to just completely crazy. I will admit I don't know that many soldiers though.

If there was no military, would there be no war?

Mostly smaller local wars I would guess. Then larger wars when there was a good reason to fight. The more people that stay out of the military worldwide, the better off we will be. Of course this is just my opinion, I'm no military expert.

Your first statement doesn't make sense, the military isn't starving for recruits.
Do those wars cause nothing but problems? Possibly, there's more going on in the geo-political scene than any of us could know.
Most of the vets I've known are doing fine, some aren't, which is why you shouldn't join for money.

Same here. I was looking into marine aviation because the promoter told me that they're usually the first into combat. Once I hit 17 years old I realized that I'd probably be too tall to fit in a cockpit. Also, the odds of actually getting to fly are pretty low from what I hear.

What are your military credentials Hostile? How about everything you say is correct? Do you have any content to add that might change my mind?
Repertoire, my point was that a lot of people are pro-military, but they would never join. They just jump on the "support the troops" bandwagon. I guess I should have explained myself better. I know they aren't starving for troops because there are tons of dumb/desperate people who will risk their life for "freedom," by that I mean fighting for other people's resources. I'm mostly referring to the recent wars. No matter what we do in the middle east it will remain a mess or get worse. They need to fix it themselves

I'd consider joining if we were in a major war, don't have an opinion on the merit behind these wars, though I usually think they're bullshit, on other hand they could be necessary to protect ourselves geo-politically. There's a reason Russia is freaking out over Syria, what's bad for our enemies may be good for us.

PatrickKn said: Hey MM, I'm in the Army currently. It was a wise decision for myself, and I genuinely enjoy it more than anything I've done in the past. I'm a Satellite Operator. If you're interested in computer sciences, consider a job in signal related fields - specifically satellite operations. Likewise, look into geospatial engineering, or signals intelligence analyst. I'm not telling you to pick them necessarily, but do read all about them before making a decision.
Don't get an MOS that you already have in the bag from college. Use the military to your advantage to learn a new set of skills that you don't already know, not to put something you already know into practice. You can put what you know into practice when you get out. I guess what I'm trying to say is don't go for computer science based MOS's if you've already gone to college for that. There are more advanced MOS's you can get into that will incorporate bits of that but have more room for growth and development of additional skills.
When my first enlistment ends, I plan on re-enlisting and going to the special satellite operations course that is 17 weeks that my MOS can attend. I've went to AIT for 35 weeks and learned the basics of my job, but the 1C course is more advanced. You can get jobs starting at over 90,000 with that kind of free training right out of the army, but I'm planning on doing 20 years myself. That's not something I was planning before I joined. After a few weeks at basic I pretty much realized I wanted to keep going for 20 years straight. It brings me more happiness than I could have realized.
Despite not being combat arms, there are many opportunities to go to specialized schools and to get deployed around the world. I plan on becoming a Warrant Officer myself, and hope to finish a technical degree in signal technology within a couple years. All college courses you take while in are paid for, and don't even effect your GI bill for when you get out. I could potentially get a full masters degree while I'm in, and will still have the GI bill to do whatever I want with when I get out.
Since you've done some college, consider going officer. If that's not available to you at the time of enlistment, make sure to ask for every bonus available. I made the mistake of not asking for enlistment bonuses. I got no bonus, but people who came in to my same MOS 4 months later were getting a $40,000 sign on bonus.
You're a smart dude MM, have you taken an ASVAB yet? If you score under a 120 for your GT score, study for it online and re-do it, because you should have no trouble at all scoring above that. Your options are much bigger with a higher GT score than anything else. I started getting offers for other MOS's right off the bat, straight out of AIT because of a high GT score, including stuff like Military Intelligence for Special Forces units, helicopter piloting and even advanced electronics courses. I enjoy my MOS for the time being though, which is great. I lucked out picking it, because I had no idea what I was doing when I chose it.

Good luck Mouse. I was in your same position and was talking to recruiters about AF officer school because I couldn't find a job. Landed a pretty good gig here in atlanta by complete chance and said fuuuuuck the military. I'm definitely not military material.
If you really believe its your only option, go for it. For what I've gathered though you seem talented in multiple areas..I wouldn't waste that on the military

I just read through your posts and didn't see your credentials. Am I missing something? What are they again?
I understand what the military does just fine. They're creating strategic chaos in the middle east for $$$$. The point of the thread was a discussion on MM joining the airforce. Or was it to find someone with a different view than you and attack them because you think they are a hippy and are different than you.
You still haven't provided any content, right now your arguments are those of a 10 year old.
