That physical challenge, skills, teamwork and discipline are the parts i most respect.
Abdication your freedom of thought and moral control of your own life and implicit willingness to commit the murder of innocents for unjust causes is the big downside.
And the fact that 22 veterans commit suicide every day and more soldiers die of suicide than combat should make you think twice about what military service does to a person.

I was in the military for almost six years and I can honestly say that it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. It made me a much more independent person and taught me a lot of life lessons. I also made a lot of life long friends from all over the world, something you don't really get in the civilian workplace. Yeah, I experienced hard times with deployments and general military life but in the end I'm glad I did it. And fuck all people who think that the military brain washes you, and all that shit. It really depends on the individual. I can honestly say that I'm the same person I was before I joined, just older, much more mature, more responsible and more adamant about staying in shape and being healthy. I'm in the best shape of my life right now, and I can thank the military for that hands down. I think you'll be glad you decided to enlist, just remember whatever you do, don't quit! Boot camp can be a huge reality check. Homesickness is definite. If you got an questions brother, you can PM me. Best wishes man.

One time, i wanted to be a Helicopter or Jet Fighter polite (hehe).
I think it would be awesome to pilot a huge machine like a helicopter or jet fighter but i get really bad air sickness so that wouldnt work for me.
Never entered thou, out of all the forces, Air Force soinded the coolest.
Note that when u enter the military, they will likely give u a hair drug test to get a long term snapshot of your past drug use.
Is there a specific thing u wanna do in the Air Force?

Any of y'all considered it before/served in the military?
I don't think you need to join the military to solve your problems, it likely won't solve any of your problems, and I don't think one should join for money
But it can help your finances and definitely help pay for college And if they have use for you then so be it
Just to clarify I'm not against joining the military or fighting in our wars, I just think one should join for the sake of doing so. I know a good number of people who did or are still in, and base my opinion on their experiences

will you be an officer? (4 years of university)? If not, make sure you acquire an education, i.e. electronics, or become a corpsman.

PatrickKn said: Hey MM, I'm in the Army currently. It was a wise decision for myself, and I genuinely enjoy it more than anything I've done in the past. I'm a Satellite Operator. If you're interested in computer sciences, consider a job in signal related fields - specifically satellite operations. Likewise, look into geospatial engineering, signals intelligence analyst.
Don't get an MOS that you already have in the bag from college. Use the military to your advantage to learn a new set of skills that you don't already know, not to put something you already know into practice. You can put what you know into practice when you get out. I guess what I'm trying to say is don't go for computer science based MOS's if you've already gone to college for that. There are more advanced MOS's you can get into that will incorporate bits of that but have more room for growth and development of additional skills.
When my first enlistment ends, I plan on re-enlisting and going to the special satellite operations course that is 17 weeks that my MOS can attend. I've went to AIT for 35 weeks and learned the basics of my job, but the 1C course is more advanced. You can get jobs starting at over 90,000 with that kind of free training right out of the army, but I'm planning on doing 20 years myself. That's not something I was planning before I joined. After a few weeks at basic I pretty much realized I wanted to keep going for 20 years straight. It brings me more happiness than I could have realized.
Despite not being combat arms, there are many opportunities to go to specialized schools and to get deployed around the world. I plan on becoming a Warrant Officer myself, and hope to finish a technical degree in signal technology within a couple years. All college courses you take while in are paid for, and don't even effect your GI bill for when you get out. I could potentially get a full masters degree while I'm in, and will still have the GI bill to do whatever I want with when I get out.
Since you've done some college, consider going officer. If that's not available to you at the time of enlistment, make sure to ask for every bonus available. I made the mistake of not asking for enlistment bonuses. I got no bonus, but people who came in to my same MOS 4 months later were getting a $40,000 sign on bonus.
You're a smart dude MM, have you taken an ASVAB yet? If you score under a 120 for your GT score, study for it online and re-do it, because you should have no trouble at all scoring above that. Your options are much bigger with a higher GT score than anything else. I started getting offers for other MOS's right off the bat, straight out of AIT because of a high GT score, including stuff like Military Intelligence for Special Forces units, helicopter piloting and even advanced electronics courses. I enjoy my MOS for the time being though, which is great. I lucked out picking it, because I had no idea what I was doing when I chose it.
thanks for your service! my respect for you just increased 10000%. and after you are out become an engineer.. you will roll in money!

Solid advice. I'd keep my profession to myself in an online drug forum though. PERSEC, ya dig?
