I'm going into the Air Force 7

Wish me luck Im going against some beliefs I've held for a long time but it may be my only hope for a future. I'm so incredibly directionless, with plenty of potential, student loans are riding my ass so this is my best course of action.
Any of y'all considered it before/served in the military?

Yeah I wanted to when I was younger but I could never pass a drug test.
Morally I am opposed to being a part of that but all the soldiers I have ever met seem to know whats up and the lols you have with a bunch of guys you have near death experiences with alone would outweigh all the innocents you'd have to slaughter.

Yup watched a could of friends become strangers willing to die if ordered. If you want to be told what to do, when to do it and how to feel then yes the military is for you! Just remember if you change your mind you officially become a slave because they own you.
BTW then there are all the perks of military life like PSTD but enough said good luck.

It was the one branch I was going to sign up for when I was 18-19. I just could not get past the thought of boot camp. In hindsight I wish I would have in the ways that I would be retired by now with a lot of material things and a completely different way of life than I live now (maybe, IDK). Regret things you have done instead of things you haven't. Good luck either way.
I am in my 50's now and glad I didn't. I have a really nice comfy life for the most part and someone to share it with. I would have been in desert storm (I was 20 in 1985, I would have signed up in 83-84). With the way things are in the world in certain places you would more than likely see combat. That is some really heavy shit to consider.

I believe in the air force you get a stress card, or is that the navy? I can't remember.
You don't have to join the military and be a door gunner on a huey and shoot innocent civilians who're tending their rice paddies, you can have a long fulfilling career and learn a lot which is not related to gunning down 3rd world savages, probably wont ever touch a gun in a conflict unless that's what you want.
I would probably totally join some branch of the military, like the branch where they sat you down and fed you psychoactive substances and then told your family you died like a hero in battle even though you were locked away in some lab in some god forsaken part of the the world, that would be cool, you know for science and all.
I am hoping to be the next Dr. Manhattan, am I shooting to high? Momma always said shoot for the moon, if you miss you'll freeze your ass off in space.

That's definitely the branch to join. That said, it's recommended to hold off on major life decisions for the first year clean for a very good reason. And clean means nothing, and you're still using substances. The military can provide direction, and be very beneficial.....but joining up while struggling can & often does backfire. You're young & have plenty of time to figure your life out. My advice is to actually get clean & focus on working through the things you need to work through. If you still want to sign up after a year of that, then it's most likely the right path for you & you should go for it.

Yeah but the Army gives you the best comradery among men short of being gay, plus you get to stare the innocents in the face as you slaughter them and lick the blood off your knife afterwards.

The air force is a good job and a good career. I know someone who raised a large family in a real nice house in a great (and expensive) part of town thanks to the air force. It's a boring and hard job, but the perks are real good.

I'm not military, but my BIL is and after twenty years you get a pension, imagine retiring at age 38, wish I'd of done it

I mean if it keeps you off dope maybe but if you end up still addicted in the air force that can't work out too well

I'm not currently craving dope, but indeed I am still an addict, am not far removed from a time where I was shooting up almost every day. DS makes a good point, but I refuse to wait a year
Not joining to escape my addiction issues, going to improve my life in general... find some purpose. I'm going in with a bachelors degree in Computer Science. I'm hoping they will have related work for me.

Overall I think it could be a good idea. You will learn skills, get discipline, and have structure, and a change of scenery. All things that could really benefit an addict.
My best friend is joining the navy at the moment.

Nice choice dude. I was in the air force through most of basic training but got med discharge.
Boot camp is tuff at first like the 1st night I actually thought of throwing myself off the top bunk to break my arm or something so maybe I would get sent home lol.
