Unable to find perlite this year without it being laced with fertilizer

I use perlite as a method of taking cuttings of certain plants, namely pereskiopsis and calea. But my god, the perlite I got has added nutrient and I couldn't find any plain perlite. So now look at the perlite.
Whatever nutrient they thought would be a good idea to add to perlite, also seems to be good eating for algae or whatever that is. Ugh.
One of my calea cuttings:

Better than my miracle grow perlite bullshit. I went to a hydro store (one I despise, it's in the basement of a very popular 3 story headshop in toronto so you just feel really suspicious walking out of there with stuff and asked for worm castings and the guy was unusually honest for the types that work there. He said I could see you this organic stuff in a tub or sell you 5x the amount in 2 days at half the cost. Waited 2 days and got enough worm castings to last me a ton of cacti repots.

Miracle grow
Never liked that stuff and in my many years of growing only used it once. Id rinse it off. I mean a good rinse.

Good idea. I just felt with cuttings they won't be in their long and with my cacti, the I flood the pots every time I water them so I hoped that would rinse off some of the bullshit. I will just get a big sack of perlite like I did worm castings. I just ran out of phosphoric acid for pH lowering, and root hormone so I gotta hit the hydro store soon anyway as much as I fucking hate the fact that it's entirely based on weed paraphernalia and extremely watered down mushroom spores. I am going to go to bed now. Nice chatting with you. Always a pleasure. I'm going to be a lot more active in this forum now that I'm going to resume trying to make grafting work, and planting 150 cacti seeds Sunday and stuff like that. Going to start up some journals etc. Made sure to post in the salvia, trichs and lophs thread tonight. Have a great night.

Yeah,I had a problem with bad perlite laced with fertilizer last season too! I can not find anything but Miracle grow perlite around here
Anyway,I knew it was the perlite that was making my plant sick, but everybody on here told me that they had used it before with no problems, and that that wasn't my problem.
Well,I knew then, just as I know now, that it was that nasty miracle grow shit thew whole time that was killing my plants!

If you can't find any maybe try an alternative like vermiculite or coir, I root my peres in the soil I grow them in. Either may be a better choice anyway, perlite dries out fast because it does not absorb moisture it just has a large surface area and only gets wet on the outside.

I'm in the same boat as you. I can only get the miracle grow perlite with nutes...
Like ferrel said just rinse it off really good. I've used it for a year now with no issues at all. I even used it in my sgfc lol.

The Lowes I went too only had Miracle Grow perlite but I just went to a hydro store and the guy gave me a free box full of sample bags of coarse perlite and all I bought was a bag of Ocean Forest.
If they dont have it at your local Hydro Store they can order it for you.
Hope this helps.

I think size plays a factor. I bought a large flat rate box of pumice off ebay and it cost like 30 bucks. Way too expwnsive now that i dont have money.

Amazon prime is great for ordering well just about anything. Super coarse perlite(no added nutes) was cheap compared to the tiny bags of miracle grow you find at the store. If you need a smaller size it's easy to gently crush.

I just found out the hydro store I hate has giant bags of cut, pure, perlite. Same place I got my giant bag of worm castings from. Just hate the people who work there. Oh well.

The plain stuff is usually outside in the corner by the big bags of compost, peat, mulch, etc...
The additive crap is usually inside.
