Automation is coming; be afraid, be very afraid....

Here is a good video about robots and automation. I am not a conspiracy theorist or anything, but I do feel very apprehensive about the future of automation and robots. I don't fear robots killing all the humans, I think the economy is going to crash when this hits...
I know robots are on assembly lines, and doing eye surgery, and what else?
Automation is taking cash register jobs, phone jobs and today I noticed that the trash truck has an arm that grabs the can and dumps the trash.
What do you see happening or about to happen?
Once cars are self driving, all the Uber and taxi and transportation jobs will be gone...

I've been saying it for a while. Our economic system has to change in order to deal with coming technology. Because our population is rising while our need for labor is falling. Either we find other ways to employ people or we face massive poverty or economic collapse.

I hate to think the atrocities we would come up with if left to our own devices without having to work to survive.

There will be major issues raging about population control, immigration, government handouts, etc.
The ability to get rich thru hard work will be gone. It will be about who owns the most and smartest robots.
What will be the point in getting an education if machines will always be smarter and faster and better? And you could use your robot to solve all your problems so you don't have to think or learn.
I think a search engine camera will be on your glasses or implanted so that what ever your heard or seen will be automatically searched so you will know the answer to everything. You could replay anything that was said or seen. People would record every second of every day of their lives. Your computer implant would let you know when someone was lying. All this he said, she said stuff will be replayed and analyzed.
My computer right now is alerting me about mispelled words.

Many academic jobs are done for the pleasure of them.
Same with many other areas of work.
If someone sent a robot to case manage a schizophrenic man he'd probably run screaming.
Furthermore can robots be original?
How to be original without consciousness? And they don't have consciousness, okay... God is consciousness.

Came here to say this.... I'd rather deal with a computer than most people 90% of the time.. computers are logical.
OP if you are worried about your job being taken over by automation maybe you should go into a job that can't be automated.. like the guy designing the robots.
Anyway, in a world where almost all jobs can be automated by machines.. in a perfect world, people can just be free to live their lives and everyone has their needs taken care of. I mean who needs to slave away when we have machines take care of all that shit for us? What's the fucking point of money when everyone's needs can easily be taken care of in abundance? People would be free to travel, make art, music, live their passions. holy shit. Unfortunately we have a ruling class and centuries old system which needs to be dismantled first.

The guy designing the robots will loose that job to robots. That is when it will get scary. The robot programmers will be better and will get better at a much faster rate keeping the robots ahead of us at a faster and faster rate.
The economic system will be something like communism, but different. The government is in trouble now because of medicaid and foodstamps.... You are talking about millions of people getting checks with no expectation of work. The workers will hate that. Civil war.

I mean people don't realize how much work goes into the machine that puts the cap on a soda bottle. There is plenty of work out there, but it is getting more and more demanding. I say long as we don't blow ourselves up we are doing a great job.

Shroomism makes a valid point. People need to stay with the times. Yeah low wage mindless mcdonalds workers might lose their jobs, but other jobs working on the robots and ordering machines will emerge.

We will just have to program them to hate themselves and masturbate all the time. That way they will never be ambitious enough to take over the world.

This would be the appropriate time to completely revamp the education system and put a lot more emphasis in to people learning about themselves in school. Spend a few minutes with some kind of analysis robot every year, and your education for the next few semesters could be drastically different from your peers. Learn about what interests you, get the freedoms and structure you need to become the most productive member of society as possible. People would be happier this way. Robots make it easier to improve us as a species, but we need to do it in the right way. We have to work with the technology to improve. Even AI, if you think about it, is fairly limited based on the knowledge we have to give it. It can become the ultimate master in logic, human history and science, but unless we fashion them bodies with similar or greater dexterity to our own they would rely on us to produce whatever results an AI system might hypothesize.
This era has the potential to be a renaissance, a golden age. Ever had a song in your head and said to yourself, "If people could only hear this.." well it won't be long until they can. Software that reads your damn mind. That sounds freaky but.. quantum encryption. Every idea you knew was amazing but forgot, every train of thought you were too stoned to finish.. You could occasionally piece together a story over a few decades, your personal AI throws together your ideas over your whole life into your perfect story and suddenly you've just published a masterpiece. Another masterpiece among many. I really just have so many ideas about this, and with a looser economic platform I could see the whole thing really blossoming with an almost scary speed. Atleast to me, us. I mean, imagine interfacing with an AI with VR tech a decade or two ahead of now? You'd have minecraft at the speed of thought. Your AI would be the ultimate apprentice, we're an old man and he's learning still yet helping us finish our sentences.. I could go on and on really. The shit ain't scary it's exciting as fuck.

This fear of robots is irrational, technology really isn't moving fast enough to automate most jobs in the next few decades. Having worked in factories where my job was to oversee machines which did most of the work, I have no fear in being displaced by machines, there is a long long way to go before that happens, unfortunately.
