Perlite in substrate?
    #23780325 - 10/28/16 03:05 PM (8 years, 2 months ago)

Anyone ever mixed it in like when mixing up a mono? A lot of commercial fertilizers have it mixed in them to retain moisture so I would imagine it would work for this too. Thoughts?

From my experience with plant mixes pearlite is added to increase the air filled porosity of the soil and improves drainage.
It is also often used to extend the life of potting mixes as the parts break down to fines the perlite maintains the airfilled porosity of the soil.
I would stick with vermiculite if you goal is to increase moisture holding capacity.
