Rye bags question
    #23779819 - 10/28/16 11:36 AM (7 years, 3 months ago)

I was thinking of doing rye bags, and I was wondering if it is possible to just fruit the bags after full colonization? All of the information I can find talks about spawning to bulk.
Any suggestions on just fruiting the rye berries immediately?
Can they be fruited in the bag?

:whathesaid:

Rye only would not perform nice. You need something to add more moisture. If you want to keep it simple you can spawn it to coir.

//edit

If you really want to fruit straight from the bags (like some grow kits) you can add pasteurized/sterilized coir after full colonization of the rye. Mix it, wait until it is colonized and put it intro fruiting conditions.

Great, thanks for the tip. Do you happen to know of any teks for this? I'm thinking of doing 1lb bags of rye. It's my first grow, and I am just exploring the options.

IF you got a bacterial bag because you prepped the grain to wet or went MS>bag you can fruit the bag if your lucky.

Not spawning a fresh clean full of spawn bag to bulk is lame and a waste of good grain spawn because there will not be as much pin point area and water.

Hang on, should I not use a syringe to inoculate a bag? That was totally the plan. :lol:

The problem with spores to to grain is that a spore print may contain bacteria or mold spores. It is possible to inoculate with a spore syringe but it could lead to contamination.

It is recommended to clean a print by using agar or if you do not want to do agar work try to inoculate small amounts of grain to check if you get clean growth.
