Maybe I am up for too long but I have seen 75$ per unit in his first post if I am not wrong. That's why I wrote good deal. Looks like he edited his post or I am really up for too long.

Nice! I have 4 similar units I'm gonna build an 8'x4' wall out of some day when I have room to dedicate to it. Though mine have way thinner bezels and a seamless face to minimize eddys. Looks like you have like a 2 inch area between your units that could have some eddy currents.
You should get a prefilter for those.
Hopefully you didn't get these from someone who had been using them to run a clean room for a few years. That's the problem with buying these used. When they are that cheap that's where they are usually coming from and the filters are near the end of their lifespan.
I work for a company that has a couple clean rooms. That's pretty much what they do. I was told the recommended usable life was like 7 years of nonstop running. But we change them after 3 years.

Nice find then for sure!
Was the unused one still sealed up in the plastic shrink wrap inside the sterile packaging in the box?

never/barely used, huh?
not to sound like a hater, but there is no reason for him to sell them so cheap if that was true.
they're most likely fine (no way to know for how long though). just don't be surprised they end up needing new filters in the near future. only thing that pic you just posted shows is that they were probably cleaned recently.... and yea, also that you need prefilters lol. do not skip on those! they are very important unless you don't mind spending hundreds of dollars on a new HEPA every other year.

@La Flama Blanca:
That's why I built my own flow hood. I know that the filter is new and so on... But for this price I would have bought it too. If you build a flow hood with new materials (good quality) you pay about 300$-400$ for a 12x24 flow hood.
I would test it with some agar plates and if everything works good, why not? It was a great deal.
Changing the filter every other year is not necessary as Juiceh already wrote.

Why would you take them off for the photos in your first post then. It looks like they are running in that pic with no prefilters.

If he has prefilters, yeah. Without them you will be changing the HEPA probably about once a year. It's amazing how much crap your prefilter will grab before it gets to the HEPA.
Mine have washable prefilters.
Quite honestly, given that there looks like quite a bit of dust shown on the backside of the top one in the first post and the dents in the front sides filter guard and the kinda dirty looking front face of the top unit I'd say that guy lied when he said they had only been used for 2 months. One of those units should not be so dirty after only 2 months of usage, unless they sat out in the open in a warehouse for months on end. If they were used as ceiling units and not stored unprotected after decommission then that dusty backside is an indication of how long it was actually in service.
If you purchased them without the prefilters then I bet the prefilters were removed because they were pretty dirty and they didn't want you to see that.
It's still a good find and price though.

So i got these all set up prefilters and all I run the top hepa for an 1/2 hour to clean the room before turning on the 2nd one on the bottom for another 1/2 hour I tested 5 agar plates set up along the front ranging from 2 inches to 2 feet away leaving them open for 10 minutes , its been about two weeks and zero contamination on any of the five agar dishes

When I first got my hood I left a 1/4 pint mason jar no pour plate open in front of it for 24 hours. I still have the plate after like 5 years. It's still clean.

The agar puck is like 1/4-1/2 inch thick. No filter in the lid. Just a sealed jar. Doesn't look dry. The puck hasn't separated from the jar walls at all.
