I am reading one of the PF tek's on this site. I am a little confused about spore syringes. Is it smarter to prepare a liquid culture in honey water or to use the spore syringe directly into the brf cakes? Thanks everyone this site has been a wealth of info.

Y'know, I don't think I've ever heard of anyone using LC to inoculate cakes, probably because it's a bad idea. LCs are notoriously difficult to detect contams in, and you should really be inoculating the LCs with agar wedges for large bulk grows. Is this your first grow? MS straight into PF cakes is the typical process.

Thanks for simplifying it. I want to keep my first time as simple and sterile as possible to provide opportunity for growth. How many grams does each cake produce?

Of course a flow hood makes things easier but it is not necessary to get successful results. A lot of experienced cultivators around here don't have a flow hood but still show great success.

A flow hood is extreme overkill unless you're running a mushroom farm or something where you have ridiculous amounts of spawn being made. A SAB is more than enough.
I maintain over 15 active cultures and many many more gourmet ones with only a SAB. This is about half of what I have going:
I do plan to start a legit mushroom farm though, so I will build a flow hood eventually.
Also OP, try not to triple post. Condense your writing to a single post at a time. Otherwise it bumps your thread to the top of the forum constantly and fills pages faster. (Annoying as hell and against the rules.)

MS Syringes are incredibly likely to have some form of contamination. There.
There's a chance they might not, but overall, a greater chance that they will. This doesn't matter until you're trying to put them to LC, since PF cakes are pretty damn resistant to most of the shit that can ride along in a syringe.

Yet we see thousands of success stories with them...

How many fail stories do we see? And what are we talking about specifically here? MS syringe to pf cake, most of that is gonna be success. MS to grain, somewhat less. MS to LC, even less than that. I know you know this, so I'm not sure what exactly is being contested. Are we bringing back syringe noccing?

MS syringes to grains worked for me for a time, until it didn't anymore. Then I got hit with so much contam, it took forever to start coming back. I'm glad I was able to get a taste for bulk while I was still intimidated by agar work, but agar became a real necessity for me. And, I wish I'd started it earlier, honestly.
I understand where you're coming from, Cron. But you simply cannot say Inoc or Amidogen are wrong. We all know spores have bacteria with them, and this can eventually turn someone off the hobby when they think it's all their fault.
Just a thought.

No I would love to see everybody start with agar but to simy say every syringe is dirty is simply garbage fucking info.

No I agree. I think plenty of us could plausibly make a clean syringe any time we wanted. But in general I like to discourage entrusting such a task to someone else to do correctly, for the same reason as the pre-made substrates.
Now, I don't have a wide enough sample of cube syringes to definitively say what the percentage is, of course, and I'm sure most people for whom nothing goes wrong probably never post here at all, so there's surely a skewed representation of the actual success rate, meaning we can't use the shroomery as an accurate sample. So the actual truth is that nobody except maybe Workman would have a true-to-reality estimate of those kinds of numbers. That and every situation is unique, so there is no real number. Nothing that happens is ever quite the same as something that happened before it, and that definitely includes microbiology.
But what I do know, is that there are a lot of methods that can work. A fuck ton. But I also know of quite a few can work even better than than those. So, it's like, when I get asked about my past employment in an interview I'm gonna elaborate on the bad ass job. I'll skip talking about Wal Mart. It's experience, sure, but nobody wants to hear about the lowest common denominator. I don't tell my friends about really mediocre places to eat, you know?
That's why I never recommend syringes for anything other than PF tek.
