Hey guys quick question for wiping out an Sab before work people use soapy water and leave wet I've been using salt water as it kills single celled organisms. Was wondering if this would be counter productive in any way.
Thanks

I doubt it will cause any harm, but it's totally unnecessary. What about when it evaporates and leaves salt on everything.

Soapy water isn't for wiping down a SAB, it's for misting the inside. The soap is there so your solution will stick to the walls/ceiling, and so potential contaminants will stick to it. So wipe it with salt water sure. I don't wipe mine half the time, the other half of the time I wipe it with alcohol

Take the advise from the folks above. I had a similar question last week. I used to wipe down the SAB the spray alcohol everywhere then Lysol. I did this because I thought without a flowhood I would get contains so I went overboard. Ended up pissing the old lady off cause the house smelled to high heaven of chemicals. Now I use soapy water and can do agar work anytime without her knowing
Gotta love the help from the forum!

So the soap will help the solution actually stick to the wall?

Soapy water is for misting and wiping. You're not trying to sanitize the box

Its somehow both: When I get my SAB out of the shelf it stored in, I wipe it with some alcohol, which has a lot of time to evaporate, because I still have to get all the other stuff for doing my work.
When I want to start to work, I just mist the inside of the SAB with soapy water, so that contaminatns stick to the walls and the roof of the SAB (I use mine upside down without the lid, put it on a misted towel).
Read Pasywhites SAB-Tek, that's the way I do it...

Yes, and it helps that the water doesn't evaporate as fast as without soap, so you have clear insight into your SAB.
