Toothpick and skewer transfer method * 1
    #23776381 - 10/27/16 11:22 AM (7 years, 3 months ago)

Here is an idea, and easy to do, starch free. Boil some toothpicks in hot water.
Stick them into a fruit body or a live substrate, leave them to colonize.

Transfer the colonized toothpick to antibacterial agar.

I've read that before, works well with slow growing mushrooms like reishi.Plus you can leave the fruit.

This is really interesting because come next year I plan to find some wild coral mushroom and try to inoculate some logs with that.

The fruit body is not sterile. You would want to isolate the growth on a peitri dish then transfer a wedge to the toothpicks. I do tiny 1/4 pint jars with 1" of agar and 4-10 toothpicks for my long term storage.

Awesome Gr0wer thanks. I suggested to transfer to agar after a fruit body.
Thanks for the input and experience on an agar transfer too.

Storage: Stick clean agar with toothpicks.

It would be a good technique for small mushrooms like enoki that are hard to take a tissue sample from.
