Safe to consume?
    #23776252 - 10/27/16 10:37 AM (7 years, 3 months ago)

Hi everyone,

Recently I bought a growkit online and harvested my first flush without anything unusual. But now on my second flush I have noticed some white fuzzyness on the stem and a bit on the cake. So now I wonder if I have contaminated the growkit somehow, maybe when I harvested it or sprayed it with uncooked tapwater?

Should I just harvest this in a couple of days or throw the kit away? Thanks for the help guys!

It's just fuzzy feet. They're perfectly fine, it just means you need more fae.

Oh thank you for your reply Solivagant, happy to read they are still good. I thought I contaminated them by maybe not boiling the water before spraying it in the bag or harvesting the first flush without gloves or something. I fear that I will eat contaminated mushrooms one day without understanding they are contaminated and that I'll end up dieing in my trip while I think it's just a regular trip. What are the risks of eating contaminated mushrooms?

Three days later and the caps are still not popped. I thought I would harvest them today but i guess I'll wait till the caps open.

I understand that I can just wipe the fuzzy thingys on the feet of the stem with some paper towel and then let them to dry. But how should I get the shrooms which grow downwards into the cake? I guess I have to pick the cake up out the plastic case. Why did some of the shrooms grow downward, possible to not let that happen the next time?

I waited for the caps to open but they did'nt so I just harvested them.

How does temperature affect growth of shrooms? Does it affect the quantity or just the speed of growth? Need to know because I'm doubting to get a heat mat since the days are getting colder.

Well, I'm going for the 3rd flush now. Hope this spot on the cake is nothing bad?
