Lipstick mold? Any way to salvage substrate?
    #23776203 - 10/27/16 10:24 AM (8 years, 2 months ago)

Hey guys. I'm pretty bummed. I inoculated over 10 jars with my own liquid culture and the only signs of growth I've gotten looks like it might be contamination. Does anyone know exactly what this is?

I have a dry verm layer on top of each jar, and I pressure cooked for 1 hour at 15 psi. Did everything exactly as I had done before without contam.

If this is a contamination, can I salvage the substrate by any means? Can I pressure cook the jars to kill the mold or bleach the substrates?

It isn't super important what exactly it is.
Whatever it is, I'd dump any jars that stuff is growing in.

If you made the LC straight from spores, that's your problem.
Never do that, it's a roll of the dice between passable success and complete failure.

You can't PC them now because whatever that stuff is has already made metabolites and sucked up nutrients, ruining your jars.
