A bag of poly that will last you awhile costs about $10. It is at every craft store, wally world, and every dirty old pillow in your house just waiting to be harvested.

No you don't, but not having them is kind of like riding a bike with a flat tire... Tubs have terrible air exchange even with poly. Why make it worse? I dunno maybe I'm weird and like to get the most out of my efforts!

Pretty sure bod just takes the lid off when he's home and mists properly, which is more FAE than any other tub xD

Yeah honestly I've seen people poke holes in that are smaller than normal and don't even have any poly in too. So many different ways to not use poly, but yeah it's fuckin easy to get. Just rip a pillow in half.

I'll answer without jerking you around.
Strips of Coffee Filter taped over the holes can work near as well as poly fill, meaning it doesn't filter away contams so much as it just cuts down some on the amount of dust that can enter and settle on shit, while blocking things like fungus gnats and other insects.

Harvesting poly fill from old bedding is a really bad idea, old bedding is full of nasty things, you probably don't want to screw over your hard work by doing something like that.

Where do you get this info from? Loose poly in massive holes doesn't stop contams lol

I'm sorry you said coffee filters don't do it as well... Which means you think poly does a better job, when it doesn't do shit. If gnats want in, they get in, no sweat.. fuckin gnats . And then you proceeded to talk about how dirty bedding would ruin your grow, which shows me you don't know wtf you're talking about. You know?

Is opening your chamber every day and looking at it, or fanning massive amounts of air all over it clean? Fruiting will never be sterile, nor should it need to be. If you have a contamination, your mycelium is weak af, and wouldn't even be able to survive fruiting anyways. Even if you wore a hazmat suit that farted lysol. This is because you had dirty fuckin spawn, and you really need to work on your spawn..

I have sponges in this small tub, its only about 1.4L. I have used thing synthetic filter discs too.

This tub had only a filter on top with a single hole. This was used to colonise grains in and just for GE, i.e. it probably would have grown the same with no hole. It was just fanned and misted 1-3times a day. There are fuzzy feet due to poor FAE but that does not really bother me.

I like to have intact tubs (with just a GE filter) so I can use them like large jars for colonising in.

Some people might use much larger tubs and not want holes in them, so they can do 1 big grow per year or every few years and then be able to use the box for storage. Just stick stuff in a cardboard box or black sack while growing. Might suit some people better.

Some small food tubs come with lids that could be stuffed with polyfil or other decent filters for colonising in. This means they could be used for food when you are finished growing. Many people here seem to forget that many are happy to have just a few dry grams per year, and might not have room for storing containers.

Coffee filters don't work as well because you have to take the time to cut and or tape them, poly fill is better because its easier to use quickly. Constant opening and fanning and peaking and fiddling is one of the ways people screw up their early attempts, once you're dialed in opening daily is unnecessary. So why don't you go chill alright?  :chillpill:

:dafuq: no the people who screw up early on happen because they can't tell what a clean jar looks like. It took me years to tell and I'd say at least 5000 of my posts are pretty much telling people what to look for and whats bad with their spawn. Constant checking(1-2 times a day)is what I do and I have no issues.. fuck I grow in open air sometimes in my dirty af basement lol.

And I'm sorry but I edited my post lol. Gnats get into poly, and I'm assuming dust does too. I know any molds can, and ofc mushroom flies just fly in from up top
