Hunting by flashlight

Region: Pacific N.W. coastline. Species: Psilocybe cyanescens, Psilocybe cubensis Season: Currently
Question: Is it true that the stems of one or more of these varieties fluoresce under flashlight?
I've never gone out at night and I was just trying to find out before I wasted my time on a goose hunt. lol

That looks like Ps. azurescens to me, not cubensis

That cubensis picture comes from this 2007 Melbourne thread:

Interesting tactic.

My guess, he found some Agaricus, decided they were cubes, didn't have a camera, googled Psilocybe cubensis for the closest cube match to his Agaricus, save as, then did a lil tweaker dance and hit post.

They don't fluoresce, however the species you are looking for have white stems and dark caps - so it is true that if you shine a flashlight off into the bushes/grass at night and look for vertical white lines, you'll be able to see them pretty well.

It is commonly cultivated in your area, but does not grow outside on it's own.

Please assume good faith.
He heard that there were cubes in his area and posted a pic of cubes. He needs help, not ridicule.

Accusing them of being trolls despite all evidence pointing to the contrary is not nice.

my bad, OP. I thought you were being deceptive and claiming that pic was your own, and of the mushrooms you'd found.

FWIW, I have often hunted cyans at night with an LED flashlight that has a good bluish tone to its light, and though I hadn't thought of looking for vertical white stripes - but good idea, I will try it! - I have noticed that the cap color stands out better amongst similarly-colored wood chips and fallen leaves than it does in daylight.

Sorry op. I admit i have used a flashlight. And yes, it makes the stems stand out. Especially if you stand at the bottom of a hill and shine in an upward angle, low to the ground. I suggest using caution with this technique. Lights tend to travel farther than one thinks and can attract unwanted attention.
