cool thread.
Most shortcuts ive done have ended in failure but there is one.
I used to use a SAB (actually a glove box) for shooting up my PF jars. nOw i just do it open air, but close all the windows and wipe my needle with lots of iso alcohol. Works like a charm.
I think most shortcuts are a bad idea IMHO.

Making clean cultures on agar to inoculate grains and then spawn to bulk is not as fast as using the PF tek to cultivate. In the end game though, the person who did the former will end up with a substantially larger yield.
True enough and for those whose livelihoods depend on the highest possible yields and maximum profits then I would agree you will save far more time/money by spending far more of it.
If we are talking cubensis though even a relatively piss poor bulk grow will almost certainly yield far more shrooms than your average shroomery user really needs...
Mushroom cultivation on the shroomery is for many people many different things. Some people its just a fun hobby, some an obsessive learning process, some people just want drugs, for some people its their whole lives, and some are doing it for a living.
In short it ranges from peeps who dont give nearly enough of a shit, to those who give way too much of a shit!
OP's post was a good one and theres no need to ban the expression 'short cut' from mush cult!

I agree fire beats iso achol anyday. But if it works for him on pf more power to him. That might be the easier shortcut on here.

Honestly I dont care if it works for him or doesent, just passing along what I was told myself really. I have no idea if using iso instead of fire will indeed lead to disaster because I have never done it!
Many of us us proceed in a certain way not because we have carried out tests and found that glove boxes give better results or that using naked flames for heating needles is better than using iso, but because there exists a consensus here on the shroomery that we blindly follow. Not really knowledge!
I actually think it would be a good idea to try different things out and see for yourself if something works or not before declaring it doesent but I am sure there are many on the shroomery who have done exactly that. My guess is fire is safer but also that 9 times out of ten there would be no problem.
Personally though I will always play the percentages and heat the needle etc just to be on the safe side!

Holy shit. Always knew you were Mr MB20, and thought you didn't know it.
But you do know in fact you're Mr Matchbox Twenty.
Busted is probably one of my favorite songs ever.
Seen MB20 in concert when I was 10. My dad got into a fight, promptly was escorted out.

Matchbox 20 sucks. Yeah I said it.
Successful shortcut #1: WBS. You can prep it the same day you PC it. Successful shortcut #2: Coir. Bucket tek is so easy and fast, you can whip it up in 30 minutes. Successful shortcut #3: Pour your agar. You can prepare and pour 40 plates in under 2 hours (that's with PC time and cooling).
In fact, I don't even know if I'd consider these shortcuts. Everything is already pretty streamlined in this hobby…

No! If you look at my name in my profile it says Layne Staley. Lead singer of Alice in chains, and ofc the lead singer in the group mad season. Anyone who's an Alice in chains fan but hasn't heard of mad season... Wtf are you waiting for?

The high horse is real.
Shortcuts as an experiment against your control is cool.
I don't give two fcks who's here to just grow some drugs and who's here to really learn. WHY? because it only effects the person who's here to learn how to grow some quick drugs.. they'll produce shit because no work was put in. I don't see how that effects me.

People who are just here to grow drugs and aren't interested in cultivation will often come in talking about stupid shit like selling, not contributing anything to the site, and generally just trolling and dicking around. They might drop in here and there to give bad advice, to tell noobs to wipe their needles with iso, be sure to colonize in the dark, or to use an incubator set to 86F.
I'm not into that. Most people who are here to help are not into that. I'm also not into the new folks who come in talking shit about this place being "rigid" or closed minded. Anyone who has had any kind of decent success doesn't say those things because they've come full circle and see how the site works. I honestly haven't seen a single person condone any of the ideas that are commonly rejected here, and then turn around and have consistent success. Those things don't go together. There are just as many ways to do things wrong as there are to do things right. Not everyone has to try everything to realize this. We just know you don't sterilize manure if you're using it as a bulk sub. We just know that spores to LC is a shitshow. We just fucking know you don't G2G in open air. One or two successes doing those things does not suddenly give swarms of noobs the right to come here talking like they just invented the wheel.
People who don't like how "rigid" we are here are the people who want to do things their own way, damn the consequences. Those people do not make good teachers because they are still in the stage of stubbornly making mistakes because they feel they know more about a subject that other people have been doing far longer than them.
Again, not into that. At all. Not my cup of tea. Not my bag. No officer, that's not mine, I've never seen it before.
Some of us have attitude problems, but that is so far removed from what matters, that it's a non-issue in the grand scheme. If anyone here is truly honestly interested in taking advice or fielding ideas from people who can't even accept being wrong, then I think mycotopia could use some more traffic probably.

-keeping a slant of my culture so I won't have to start from spores again -using bags so I don't have to deal with dozens of jars that need to be clean and stack up like dirty dishes in my kitchen -having a bigger PC so I can do less cycles for the same amount of grain -never having done pf tek because... I want to fill my dehydrator

I'm currently working on an ultimate short cut. Will post after completion. For now, the only short cut I use is after calling a hooker, whack off. Bam. Done. No wasting a hundred bucks. No showering. No driving. Easy peasy
