P. Azurescens ID Help
    #23771419 - 10/25/16 08:46 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

Hello,

I am trying to ID what I believe to be a large patch of Azurescens that I found growing on a log. I was unable to find any look alikes and the characteristics from what I read seem to match what I found.

Feedback would be appreciated.

Hypholoma capnoides or similar.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Gorgeous photos OP.

Azures turn greenish blue from handling and are typically found by the ocean.

...typically not found on logs in rainforests. I made that mistake my first azurescens hunt. I was hiking up a coastal trail through old growth and ferns. Some locals told me to go down to the dune grasses near (as mentioned above) the ocean.

Yup. Azures like those sandy dunes.

Not too many active species in the forest except the conifer psilocybe and sometimes stunzii.

I am lucky to have found the conifer psilocybe in its native habitat. It is one of the meager three confirmed psilocybes under my belt. It's a biggee though. Those dunes might be seeing me soon.

So say for instance I was in Washington... It would be worth the trip to go to the coast to look, insteadall of local parks and forests?

Oh man! That was a critical word! I recommend checking ALL local parks first then hit the coast. As i mentioned i find all my actives in forested city parks.

What actives are you finding in the parks?

I just took a picture of the other species I picked in a local park. They seem to bruise blue/purple.

I would actually insteadall continue to go to the local parks that have good wood chips and habitat. The coast is not a brass ring. If you got the time and the moxy, then go to the coast. Just make sure to get there before sunrise so the shrooms don't see you coming.

Ive found cyans at one park and a stunzii subspecies (i think) in another park.

I also found a legit stunztii species (featured in my avatar) at a woodchip bed at a local college.

Interesting, it is quite the hobby although I have yet to try anything I have actually gathered myself.

Not even close. It's a good thing you're smart enough to ask for ID confirmations.
